Yes, there is no end to the drama in my life! I have a cousin who is dying. Her sister (obviously another cousin) called me to tell me that there has been a turn for the worse and she will probably not make it through the end of the month. She has pancreatic cancer which is one of the worse cancers you can have. Here's the problem. I want to make her some cookies because she has always loved them. I made a platter for her 49th birthday party (they figured she wouldn't make 50 so they made the 49th a big one so everyone could see her). I posted pictures of them here on cake central (they are a spring themed with bugs, floweres and birtday cake cookies). That was easy to do. What now? I made 3 inch circle cookies and I was thinking of just making smiley face cookies and overnighting them to her. Is there anything else I could make? I obviously can't make get well soon cookies because that just insn't going to happen. Can anyone help me out with an idea. I need some ideas soon as I really want to get them out on Monday or tuesday at the latest! Thanks!

My sister died of cancer a year or so ago. I know that she loved whatever folks made for her. no special theme needed. I'm sure you could make plain circles just iced and she'd love it that you thought of her and made them just for her.

I'm sorry she is going thru that.

I couldn't agree more, I'm sure she'd apppreciate the thought regardless of the cookie style. That's so nice that you want them to be special. If you "need" to do more, how about a simple monogram?

If that didn't work, I have a picture in my photos if you'd like to look.

Another idea is to go with the Spring theme once more since that is probably a fond memory of hers. You can never go wrong with flower decorationsicon_smile.gif

Susan-I am so sorry that you are going through this.
What about doing cookies of some of her favorite things? Did she have any special hobbies or what did she do for her profession? Heart cookies with children's or husband's name? Cookies that represent everything/everyone she loves. Kind of like a portrait of her life theme if that makes sense?

I so sorry you and your family are going through this. I really feel like the heart idea that others have mentioned is perfect and if you have children, she might like it if they decorate a few. I will keep her in my prayers.

Just another thought ... near the end, my sister had STRICT dietary rules, so check to make sure your cousin is permitted cookies. (For example, my sister wasn't allowed to have potatoe chips, but being mentally 10 years old, she'd sneak some anyway. I'm not kidding, one chip would put her in the hospital for 3-4 days!)

God Bless your cousin and family. It's never easy to lose a loved one. Especially to such a terrible disease.

Not sure if she is a religious person, but maybe an angel?

I like the heart idea as well. .

All of you are just awesome. Your ideas are great. I just wanted them to be as special as they could be. I'm pretty sure she can eat anything. I think I am going to make some flowers and some heart cookies. I never thought of the hearts. What a great idea to tell her I love her. She didn't have such a great life and I just can't believe it is going to end so soon. Very sad but this is life and we have to take what comes to us. Indydebi - so sorry to hear about your sister. I know what it is like to lose a sibling and my heart goes out to you. Thanks again everyone. I knew I could count on you! icon_smile.gif

Sorry to hear this, but good luck with what ever cookies you decide to go with. Going with the heart theme what about hearts with wings? She would be your loving angel soon!

My dad passed away from the same nasty cancer. I am so sorry your family is having to go through this.

I love the heart cookie idea and you could monogram them or just put the word "Love" on them to show you are sending your love during this difficult time.

I'm so sorry.

I also agree that anything you make for her would be loved and appreciated.

I think some really pretty hearts would be very nice.

I made these, last year, for a friend of the family. He had ALS and has since passed away. I received a note from his wife, after the funeral, and let me know how much he loved the cookies. He ate those when he was not eating any other food.

I'm so very sorry about your cousin. I was caregiver to my SIL with cancer last year, and although at this stage, she won't be able to eat your cookies, your thoughtfulness and the fact that she gets to see your wonderful cookies and you made them just for her, will bring her SO much joy. I like the heart idea. Perhaps, since they are from you to her, you can make them personal. Being your cousin, you probably have many memories of the experiences you've shared. Maybe each cookie can signify a certain memory. Maybe even a private joke you two share. Those, along with a note explaining each cookies "memory" will be a special way to let her know how she' touched your life. I always encouraged people to tell my SIL that stuff when we knew her time was near. That stuff shouldn't wait for the funeral... they should hear it before they're gone. Memories mean everything to her right now. Sorry, mushy. Guess I'm not quite over the traumatic experience and the grieving continues. Bless you for bringing her joy during this time. My thoughts are with you.

Thank you all! I am going to hopefully finish them today and put them in the mail tomorrow. That is my goal for the day. Her family is kinda "messed up" so it is even sadder. There is a lot of baggage that she is leaving behind. I feel so bad for all of them because I think her death is just going to make more resentment. You'd have to know the whole story to make sense of it all but I won't bore you with the details. It is just a reminder for all of us to, as I tell me kids all the time, "love the ones you love, totally and unconditionally". You just don't know what is going to come your way. I'll post pictures.

I am so sorry to hear that your family is going through this. I am a bit late on this posting, but I think your idea to do the hearts and flowers is just perfect! This will mean the world to her and bring her joy during a difficult time. I made cookies for someone who was dying of double lung cancer (and he never even smoked!) and his wife told me after he passed that in his final days, they were the only thing he could eat and the only thing that made him feel good. You are doing a wonderful thing for her and I am sure it will be sincerely appreciated!

Update! Melanie ate half a cookie (which is HUGE!) and really enjoyed looking at them. So for that I am grateful. I just wanted to let her know I was thinking of her. Thanks for all your support. My cake central Sisters!

Just wanted to add that if she likes the whole springy flower theme ( and who doesn't feel better when they get flowers?) and you already have the round cookies baked......what about these??
I just painted on them w/ americolor gels and they're just a simple five petal flower......basically you just make a "C" and then another and another until you have five! They're very simple and I"m sure would cheer anyone up!
My prayers will be with your cousin and your whole family.
LL

KHalstead, gorgeous cookies. Would be wonderful to receive these instead of "real flowers" - can't eat real ones but you can eat cookies!

Thanks Tracy, yes I was happy so got one down or I mean half of one.
