Im going to attempt making a beer bottle cake and I'd like to have them sitting in a cut whiskey barrel, but I have no idea how to make the wood panels.

I was wondering if it would be better to do it in fondant or just mold some melted chocolate into the shape of the planks and carve in the woodgrain.

If someone has any idea and directions on how to do the woodgrain on either the fondant or chocolate I'd be ever so grateful for the help.

Thanks in advance!

I did something similiar, you can see it on the duck cake in my photos. I just took a light brown and twisted in a dark brown fondant with it, until I had little stripes. Then I rolled it out and just make sure you cut the planks "With the grain" =)

Thats what I was looking for. It looks really nice!

Did you let the fondant wood panels dry a little before you put them on the cake so they wouldn't droop?

Also what tip did you use to make the buttercream bubbles? I'd like to use that for the beer foam.

Thanks!

I made a pirate ship and covered everything in white fondant strips and then painted on the color using Wilton colors and diluting it with a little vodka.
