Hey gang, been a while but I'm back and in need of some help! I have a client that wanted 2 cakes for her 2 daughter's. She's combining their birthday parties this year and each wanted something different. So they decided on High School Musical and Hannah Montana. So I came here in search of some ideas and she picked the most beautiful cake! Here's the link http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_1180400.html now I'm having difficulty because I've never worked with fondant before... ever!!!!! I've worked with gumpaste but never fondant.

My questions are these:

  • How do I make the bow?
How do I make the lettering?

The cake is due for delivery on January 18th but I know from previous threads the bow will need time to dry so I figured I'd ask now... Any help will be much appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Hi Becky -

You can make the bow out of gp or fondant. I prefer to make bows from gp. You just make the individual loops and put them together after they are dry. You can take a little mound of royal on a pc. of wax paper and place loops into that to dry. The letters look like they might be cutters but you can hand cut letter out of fondant or gp.

Hope that helps a bit....

PS - Fondant really is not all that difficult..... Practice before doing the real cake.

The only things I would do different is make the bow right on the cake using melted white choco (or match the color of the loops).

Gp is basically fondant w/an added drying/hardening ingredient so you basically have already worked w/fondant icon_smile.gif Fondant just dries slower.

Thank you Ladies! I appreciate all the help. Any more ideas/tips/tricks are welcome!!! I'm going to try the MMF first and see how that works if I can't manage it I'll definatly get the gumpaste. icon_smile.gif
