You know it's strange but I don't eat cake either
And what was extremely weird was I'd lost alot of weight and someone told me to take the wilton classes, well I took them and still after all 3 courses cake never appealed to me.
Mind you alot of people's dessert tables were quite happy to see the creations from the cake classes.
I know each cake recipe I make is good Even before the weight lost I ate my cake recipes so they are tried and true but now i don't eat it.
As for the Icings well I've found a unique way to taste my icing to make sure it's not too sweet or not too BLAH!!!!
I simply mix my icing and once i'm done eyeballing the consistencies I take a tiny bit place it on my tongue and once i feel the hint of flavor i quickly wipe the icing off my tongue with a paper napkin throw it in the trash and adjust the flavor if the icing needs to be adjusted.
Weird it sounds but the weight has been kept off and people rave about the cakes.
Like most of you I do dislike when I take a cake somewhere no one will cut the cake they'll just stare at it and then some brave soul tries to entrust me with a knife and asks if i'd cut the cake.
In my cake loving days I loved the cream cheese icings. When I FIRST DISCOVERED BUTTERCREAM icing i was in high school and was a fan ever since but i packed more weight than a freight train then I had to cut back and the first thing that had to go was .. you guessed it .. dessert.
I remember when carrot cakes were scared to see me coming.( LOL)
AHH but alas now I can bake a cake with the ease of not even being tempted to eat it and mind you.. I've even done very low calorie and sometimes even low fat recipes,no one misses the changes I make to them and they still retain their flavor. So i do offer people the guilt free cakes now, they can enjoy the richness without the guilt.

I still eat and like cake. I love trying different recipes and combinations. When I'm baking for someone, I taste a tiny bit of the icing just to make sure it's "right" but I'm not an icing fan at all. I just like the cake part.

I hardly bake for myself, I only get a piece of my own when I do my monthly donation. I volunteer with an animal rescue group and believe it or not they were looking for a "baker" when I found them. They wanted to do monthly birthdays for the volunteers. So they are my guinea pigs and boy are they spoiled ROTTEN. LOL But it couldn't go to a better group of people. That's the only time I'll try a very small piece just to see how it came out.

One time I was gone and someone bought a store cake and boy were they upset. I've turned them all into Cake Snobs. icon_biggrin.gif

Momoftwogirls, I am about to sign up for anither Wilton class, and the thing I liked least about these classes was always having to bake--especially because the ones I took were twice a week! I like to eat cake, but don't want to have it around, because I'm always trying to lose weight. I've decided for my next Wilton class, I'm going to ice styrofoam. After class, I can keep the cake around for awhile as a dummy, or scrape the icing off and use the dummy for the next session. No one even has to know....

my dear itsacake: that's a fab idea...however, stryrofoam doesn't clean up well, so to be able to re-use your styrofoam dummy, wrap it in adhesive vinyl first. also, since it's not heavy like a cake, you'll need to keep it from skidding all over the place when you're decorating: in baker's college we used cake dummies that were attached to heavy wooden boards...you can make this by drilling a long screw through the bottom of a board (make sure it's flush so the board sits flat) and impaling the the cake on the screw.

I am so caked out its not even funny, but I do still eat it, cause if it is mine then I have to make sure it tastes good, and if its someone else's then I have to taste it to see if I like it or not or how it compares to mine. I have found that I don't like other people's cake as much sometimes as I used to. I especially don't like store bought cakes anymore.

OH!! Bring it ON is what I say! I love, love, love cake! icon_biggrin.gif It's always been my favorite dessert. I am one of those people you see going back for 2nds every time even though sadly my body shows it. I make cakes for occasions here at home and I end up eating most all of it because after everyone in my family has one slice, they're done and the rest will just sit there until it gets thrown out. That doesn't happen on my watch! LOL! Quailty control I call it. icon_lol.gif

Dear Aunt-Judy,

Thanks for the hints about wrapping the dummy in vinyl. I hadn't tried that before, but then, I never reused one before either. The heavy base is a good idea too. I did realize the dummies are lighter as I had to bring two on an airplane and if they had been cake, I wouldn't have been able to manage.

Thanks so much!

I absolutely love decorating cakes but I am very picky about the types of cakes that I like. I only like Chocolate or French Vanilla cake so I will definately eat that but any other flavors I can always decline.

Thanks for the tip on weighing down dummy cakes! I am entering cakes in a couple of fairs this autumn and they are judged only on decoration and dummies ARE allowed!!!!! This will make it so easy to take my time and really get them how I want them icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif But I was wondering how to get it to stay on the board!!! Thanks!

I have to say, I love cake, some more than others. If it's my cakes i have to make sure i get a piece before going to work , cause when i get back home there is only the plate with crumbs. icon_biggrin.gif

when i have an other for a cake i have to make sure and write it on the memo board, and so they will leave it alone.

My kids don't like cakes from others, they say it don't teast as good as mines. icon_wink.gif

I also like to teast cakes from others, so that i can see if they are any good.

My favorate cake is our cashewnut cake, yummy.

I can only tolerate a little bit of cake, then I'm sick of it! Even my kids don't eat much cake. If I make an 8 inch round, we are lucky to eat half of it. Guess it's cause I make so many for other people.

Are you kidding? Of Course I eat cake! I have found though that I can usually now have just a small piece, no need to indulge in a large one anymore 'cuz it's not like I'm not gonna see another cake for a while! thumbs_up.gif

This is funny, I'm quoting myself. . .lol!

Forgot to mention, I don't eat too much - it would defeat my going to the gym! I'll have a tiny bit og buttercream, but no fondant. The fondant doesn't taste bad, I just don't like eating it, only admiring it! thumbs_up.gif

I only like the cake not the frosting unless i am using whipped topping. I am really not a fan of buttercream. It is just too sweet. And for the record I HATE decorating cookiesMy mom always used to have me make the cut outs at Christmas time and now I won't even do it. I made a double batch of the dough this last Christmas and threw it out cause I didn't want to make them. My hubby loves all cakes. I was making one yesterday for my parents anniversary and he saw it cooling on the table when he came home for lunch but I took it over to my mom's before he got home for work and he was looking all over the house for the cake.....lol. My family acts like they never had cake before.

YES I eat cake! thumbs_up.gif I too make cupcakes out of left over batter and keep them in the freezer for "emergencies icon_surprised.gif " icon_rolleyes.gificon_lol.gif And yes I always get the job of cutting the cake at a party too. I have even had a customer pay me to deliver and stay to cut the cake at her senior center!! I think it comes with the territory. icon_cool.gif

This is exactly what I do too....except you forgot to add the part that if the competition's cake is as good or on a rare occasion - dare I say - better than mine icon_surprised.gif , I then have to hate the baker. icon_lol.gif
