I am up researching what I want to do for my birthday cake. Figure a 6" will be enough for me and my girls, hubby has to work but wanted something totally for me, so I haven't decided yet.

It is awful quiet tonight...lol

I just made the fondant/gumpaste accents for a film reel cake due tomorrow. I used black satin ice mixed with gumpaste and cut out a strip of film for the edible images that will get framed. The top is an 8"plaque of gumpaste cut to look like the reel itself, airbrushed grey.

Will post picks tomorrow...

Unfortunately I'm side lined from caking for awhile. I'm really bummed about it too!

I hurt my knee last week and got the word today that I'm having surgery on Tues. I have to stay off my leg for 2-3 weeks AFTER surgery. I've already been confined to the couch for a week and a half.

This stinks!

All I can think about is all the cakes and tastings I am going to have to pass up.

Again this stinks!

Pastel,
I call the FNCC to order between 10:45 and 11:00 pm. EST every Friday night. A lot of us are up late getting out Saturday orders, and it's just nice to break every once in a while to "talk" to others (sometimes from other countries + the USA) who are up late doing the same thing.

And if someone runs into a problem, we brainstorm a fix.

I'm so happy to announce I have NOTHING to do today!
After how crazy October was I'm glad I don't have anything booked this weekend, only a couple of consultations.

Next week I have a small baby shower cake and then nothing until December!!! icon_lol.gif so far I mean, I bet a couple of last minute orders will come up, but I honestly would appreciate some rest.

Was it only me or October is the busiest month of the entirer year?! Gosh!...everybody's b-day and wedding was in Octuber.

Any who! I hope you guys have a nice Friday and rest of the weekend...

Okay need a bit of help with something. I have used ganache as a filling before and was wondering if it is the same recipe you would use for a poured ganache over the top. I am thinking white b/c icing underneath a nice chocolate "thing" on top with some nice chocolate covered strawberries.

Just a thought...

I took the day off from my regular job today to work on a three tier birthday cake for my 2-year-old niece, and a hat box cake for a co-worker's 18-year-old daughter. I've been making gumpaste pieces for both all week. I've been working on them since 9 AM, and I'm almost done. I'm especially excited to see the hat box cake come together.

It takes me a long time to do my cakes. I'd sure have to get a lot faster at it if I wanted to make a living at it!!

I look at a cake picture someone has brought me and think "oh that should be simple" and then I get into it and it takes me longer than I thought it would... that drives me crazy!!! I wish I could be faster... there's always something that seems to take longer.. ugh...

What's everyone doing for Thanksgiving??

Ganache
As a filling I make it stiffer - twice as much chocolate as cream.
For poured, I make it equal parts.

Tdybear, sounds like your usual schedule. icon_smile.gif Do you have your helper tonight?

I'm here! 2 cakes tonight a pink girly castle and a bucket of popcorn cake. Both fun!!

Last week I had that ugly castle the customer wanted--my kids and DH woke up and said "What is that?"-that's how ugly it was, but she wanted it sooo badly. I made it just as the pic she showed and she loved it even more in person- go figure!

Shannie, melt your ganache and let it cool to a good pouring consistency. It'll be fine over BC. I love it best over whipped cream cakes, tho'.

Cakegrlpa, you know why so many October birthdays? New year's eve! icon_wink.gif I have a lot of november cakes--know why? Valentine's day! icon_wink.gif

Hi all icon_biggrin.gif I just finished a wine bottle cake. It's a small one, for a friends stepdaughter. I got to use my new airbrush, so much easier then coloring fondant.

I had my biggest cake week ever...six cakes. So did one a day. I just finished a stork/bear cake tonight (same design as already in my photos, new customer). I have one more cake tomorrow and then I can finally call it a week.

Then next week I have surgery and no more cakes til January! The break will be nice (although the lack of money won't LOL). It will be nice to have time, when I feel a bit better, to maybe to a little side baking for family and friends over Christmas and stuff.

Oh yeah. Next week I gotta do all the housecleaning that did NOT get done this week or last week....people ask me all the time how I do all the cakes and my four boys....its like "Um well its easy, I just don't clean the house. haha." And hubby helps as well.

You guys are awesome, thank you.

Cakegrlpa....my birthday was thursday and I too turned the big 3-0, kinda depressing as no one was around to celebrate it. So I hope yours is full of excitement and fun!!!!!

Imakecakes....Congratulations hun!!! That is so wonderful for you, I can just feel your excitement. I wish you nothing but the best of luck in your new endeavour!!!! I don't think I have ever done a whipped icing so maybe I have to give that one a try too!

Tdybear...you amaze me! I always love coming on here and hearing just how busy you are, makes me think that there are some lucky people out there celebrating some fun times.

Shannie, it helps to tint the BC brown so when you pour the ganache on you can't see any white showing thru.

Leah thanks for filling me in....I wish I had looked at this last week. I was up until 2am finishing 2 birthday cakes, a barbie princess strawberry cake with buttercream and a Belle princess chocolate cake with buttercream. I am a newbie and it took me a while, I even felt kinda left out...thinking nobody takes this long. icon_cry.gif But now I know I can find some kind of support late nights. (specially friday's yay!)

Oh and reading on the post Congrats to imakecakes on your new and exciting job.
