Last week I thought I saw an episode on the Food Network where they dipped brass type door handles into hot sugar. When they cooled they popped off for the cupcake decoration. Maybe I'm dreaming, but did anyone else see this and if so how does it work. I think it was a woman from Alaska that did this.
thanks

That was cool! No, it was Bronwen Weber....figures! She does the coolest stuff! I'm waiting for someone else to chime in with more detail about this method.

Yes, I saw that too. It was Bronwen. She said you get the brass really cold and then dip it in the hot sugar.

But I don't know where to get the molds???

I have a feeling that they were regular old brass door knobs and cabinet pulls.

Or....embossers! You know those things you can push into hot wax to make a seal?

I saw that too! Thanks for the link also! Could you just go to Lowe's or something and get some handles and use them the same way??

so yes molds like this do exist they are just really hard to find and very expensive partly because of rarity and partly because they are a lot of brass using brass door handles is a nice little cheat. The sugar has to be brought up to hard crack stage while the brass is placed in a bowl of ice.  you can then dip the mold and and pop of the results. The created shapes can be stacked in order to form shapes and arrangements.    this was done with a set of brass flower molds
