Red Food Gel For Fire Truck

Does anyone have any tips on using red for a fire truck. I really want it to be bright, but does it take usually the whole jar or could I add another color to the red to brighten/darken it faster?

I use chefmater liqua gel red and use very little to get bright red and it doesn't have to sit overnight to intisify. Check out the catsup on my hamburger cake.

I use Americolor brand red coloring and you don't need too much to make it a deep red.

I haven't tried this myself, but I did have a student do it and tell me it worked great for red. Instead of water they used the liquid red food coloring you get in the bottle at the grocery store. You have to make a whole batch but if it is for a big project it wouldn't hurt.

Americolor is a great paste gel for getting deep colors. If you use the liquic food color, it will thin your buttercream or fondant and you will need extra powdered sugar to keep the consistency. Gel colors definitely work better and Americolor is great.

Not if you only add the liquid food color and no other liquid. What my students did was instead of the 3T or 4T of water the recipes calls for they used 3T or 4T of liquid red food coloring. They said it came out just like regular buttercream.

I made a firetruck cake (in photos) and used about 3 jars of Wilton No Taste red. It was not bitter at all. I have since purchased Americolor but have not had a chance to use it.
