Oh that's soooo cool! That's one of the things I love about that recipe, it's so versatile!! I made it with coconut extract and sprinkled coconut between the layers, oh so yummy!! It also takes liquor washes very well icon_wink.gif

Oh gosh...don't get me started on cake a liquor...my great aunt totsy, bless her heart....wonderful cook...oldest living Miss Arizona....LOVES her rum cake. All she ever makes. Cooked with rum in it, then she soaks it in rum. It's rummy icon_smile.gif

I was wondering, have you ever made it with buttermilk? I love the sound of "Vanilla Buttermilk Cake." I think it might make it kind of smooth tasting? I know it wouldn't throw off the recipe, so maybe I'll try it.

Ooooo, that sounds yummy, let me know if you try it! I haven't tried altering the original ingredients beyond extracts yet but I want to. I read one of your other posts about using cocoa powder in this recipe and I'd like to give that a try, maybe sub out a little of the flour and see what happens!

Adding a few tablespoons of cocoa powder would totally work in this recipe for a marble cake. Not if you wanted like, a chocolate cake, but if you were swirling it with some vanilla then of course, no problem! I've done that with my old white cake recipe. I've also divided the batter, added vanilla to one half and rapsberry jam to the other. Pink and white swirl cake icon_smile.gif
(That was with my old recipe, but no reason it wouldnt work here)

Ok, I'm going to praise Serious_Cake's recipe one more time. I made lemon cake with it today that is to die for! I halved the recipe (it makes a perfect 3 layer 6'' round when halved) and added 1 teaspoon really good lemon extract and the zest of one whole lemon (pop the lemon in the mircrowave for 10 seconds before, it brings the oils up or something). It turned out so wonderful!

lol-that's funny because I was thinking of you today when I was baking! I thought about how you used the recipe for orange spice cake so I added 1 1/2 tsp. orange extract, 1/2 tsp. rum extract, a dash of both cinnamon and ground cloves, and the zest of one orange. OOOOOHHHHHHH man!!! It was sooo yummy!
I've used this for lemon too, too good thumbs_up.gif Try the recipe with raspberry extract sometime, I also add some mini-chocolate chips, it's one of my most requested!!
Keep the ideas coming, I'm always up for some new twist icon_biggrin.gif

I like the white on white buttermilk cake. You can adjust some of the ingredients on there also.

Awww, Thats so cool!! Lol. Orange Spice cake is always yummy, and I guess I'm going to have to try raspberry chocolate chip cake. I know, darn, right?! I added praline flavor to it the other day too and filled the cake with pecans brown sugary caramel. That was also good.

I have my first BIG cake order comming up next week. 50 servings. i used the Wilton cake serving chart, and am doing an 8'' on a 10'' - All vanilla cake. I'm nervous and excited, and this godsend recipe is making me more confident than I should be, lol
