How much cake batter in pans

How do you know how much cake batter for your cake pans. I am doing a 3 tier round cake this weekend and I want the tiers to be even. I'm doing a 12in, 10in, and and 8 in. and they are 2 in deep pans. Is there a chart somewhere to look this up.

Thanks
Lisa

try www.wilton.com or www.earlenescakes.com/

I use the one of the wilton books that has a breakdown of how much batter to use and icing.

good luck!

Really it totally depends on the cake. My chocolate cake rises a LOT, my white cake doesn't so I need to use more batter for white than chocolate.

I read somewhere that you should measure the amount of water that it takes to fill the cake pan then use 2/3√Ęs of that value as the volume of cake batter to use.

www.Wilton.com has a good chart for amounts of cake batter. Go to the site and sarch on "Batter amount". Pretty accurate.

It is sooooooo messy to measure batter! icon_sad.gif
a 12x2 round pan used 1 & 1/2 cake mixes
the 10x2 pan is filled w/one mix
and 1 1/2 mixes fills *2* 8x2" rounds
