So I am making 150 cupcakes for a friend (acquaintance) and they took way longer than I anticipated, but it was my first cupcake wedding so that was fine. But the drive to deliver turned out to be THIRTY MILES AWAY up in the WOODS (read that as drive super slow because of extra windy steep roads).

Bride did NOT tell me how far or how treacherous! I spent $30 in gas with my van, not to mention I wasn't able to go to church since I was gone for over 2 hours to deliver and set up when I was expecting 20 min delivery.

So now I've learned a lesson

#1 no more cakes on Sundays, don't want to ruin my worship.
#2 always ask the bride how FAR the venue is, how long she thinks it will take to drive there S L O W LY and road quality (steep, back roads, bumpy roads, etc...).

I did have my cake matrix set to 30% of the price of a cake slice... but now I am going to change that to 200%!!!!! Decorating every individual serving is a giant pain and 3 times the amount of work!

Did I mention it was 30 miles EACH WAY!

lol.......I've been there and done that (topsy turvy cake in my avatar.....up like a 90 degree incline for 45 minutes!!!) anyhow........what I do now is ask them the address to the venue and I go online and look up the driving directions. If it's outside my range of "free delivery" which is like a 5 mile radius of my house, then I charge $1.00/mile! I just delivered a cake 63 miles this weekend and it took me 4 hrs. to get there, set up, and get home...so I figure I made like $15.00/hr....not bad considering I'd have made NOTHING for delivery and set up if it were close by!
