The way the light hits the swatch it's hard to tell, but if you are going for the darker shade it looks great.
It's very close to the same color. From the picture it looks like it may help to go a little more toward red.

i agree about adding red, however, to achieve the color i only used burgandy and black. do you think i should add *more* burgandy or perhaps add a touch of red? AND i love the idea about adding luster dust!

I think your base color is fine as is. If you brush it with a shade of red luster dust (I can't tell the true color from my monitor, but just be sure to match warm or cool tones) that should give you both shine and the subtle red you need to match the red nap on the fabric.
I think I would start over and add lots more burgandy and no black. From the picture your sample looks muddy, not bright like the swatch. You want deeper color not darker color if that makes sense. I had the same problem when I was trying to get a fushia.
