i have decided that i need to buy a cake leveler as my cakes are now uneven for some reason!! The only 2 cake levelers i can find are the wilton and the agbay. Are there any more??? The agbay seems to be very expensive but does sound like a wonderful product. Is there anyone that thinks the large wilton cake levler is a good buy???? I like to know as it seems to be ore in my price range.
I have the large wilton leveler. For me, it works just fine. It gets the job done like it is supposed to. I have heard a lot of great things about the agbay though.

Agbay is the best. I wanted to buy a wilton leveler but I was put off by the negative comments about it. But since I have my agbay now, things are much easier to do.
The lg Wilton leveler I had was a piece of junk!

I just bought the new Wilton leveler --- not the wire but the blade that's pretending to be an Agbay. Has anybody tried this one? I haven't used it yet. Is it any good?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!! The blade wilton one is HORRIBLE! The blade is not taught enough and it completely ruined a wedding cake that I made and my DH and I had to shim the corner of the cake to make it level. It cut my cakes completely unlevel. I have not been able to find the large wire one so I bought the blade one and literally threw it in the dumpster after the wedding cake debacle!

I have this same leveler and hated it. Really truly hated it!!!!! Then, I used in on a cake that I had had in the freezer and had thawed completely so it was a little softer with absolutely no crusting. I used it basically as a saw, going back and forth very slowly and it worked great. But, the next day used it on a cake that still had a little crusting on it and the blade went all over the place.
So, if you are using it on a soft cake with no crust I think it is good for the price. Otherwise stick with the Agbay.
i have bought a wilton leveler today so i will bake a cake just for me to try it out!!! its the one with the blade so i will take on your tips smcdonald and see how i go. wish me luck, ill keep you updated!!!
Is that all we have to choose from? Either the crappy Wilton or the super-expensive Agby? Has anyone found anything in between the two? Another brand perhaps???

I bought the Wilton large leveler because until this forum I had never heard of the agby. DUH!!!
Anyway, it was a piece of crap! But I read, I think on this forum to use guitar string. The heavy ones, so I went to the nearest guitar shop and bought metal guitar string. Threw out the blade and wrapped the guitar string to the blade. tight enough to cut but yet loose enough to move up and down the bar when I need it.
Best investment of a few dollars for me.

The large Wilton leveler is junk. If you get enough orders save your cake $ and go ahead and buy the Agbay. It's worth every penny. Cuts through nuts and all.

I'm so glad I've read this!!! I've hated the large cutter ever since buying the darn thing and didn't want to throw it away. I have been using 2 shortened wood dowels with floss as a cutter for larger cakes, maybe I'll hit my son up for a set of his extra guitar strings... Thanks for the tip auntginn!
you can swap out the wilton blade with the blade from a bow saw (never used, steel, no coating, not galvanized) Use the original blade as a template, cut to length drill small holes in same spot that the original had and attach with the same cotter pin used in the wilton blade.
