Substitute Melted Choc. For Cocoa Powder?

HELP!! I am completely out of cocoa powder, and I'm going to a family dinner in 2 hours! Can I substitute melted chocolate (either baking choc. or chips, I have both ) for the cocoa powder? The recipe I usually use for this cake is the Chocolate Syrup Frosting, which calls for 1/2 c. of cocoa powder, but I'm open to a different recipe if I can use melted chocolate!
TIA!!!
Hey, I also have cream cheese, so does anyone have a good chocolate cream cheese frosting recipe?
Go ahead and sub the melted chocolate in. I use melted chocolate (cooled) in my chocolate buttercream. I find it less grainy. HTH
The recipe I use calls for melted chocolate, but I always use cocoa powder mixed with oil (per the side of the hershey's powder container) and have never had a problem with graininess. This is what I use:
Rich Chocolate Buttercream
2 oz dark chocolate, melted
2 oz semi-sweet chocolate, melted
1 cup butter
¼ cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla
¼ cup Hersheyâs cocoa powder
1 pound powdered sugar (4 cups)
Dash salt
In a large bowl, cream together butter and chocolate with an electric mixer. Add remaining ingredients and cream until desired consistency. Makes 3 ½ cups.
Okay, I just subbed the melted choc. in the Chocolate Syrup Frosting recipe and it turned out wonderfully!!! I used milk choc chips, which changed the flavor a little, but I love it!!!
funbun, it is quite a bit smoother this way!!
THANKS!!!
