Hi! was going to make my best friend a candy "barrel" cake. you know the ones w/ the kit kats on the outside. thought i'd make a 10in double layer for work. is there a trick to it? or just bake, fill, frost and stick the kit kats to the outside and top w/ the candies???? looks that easy, just wondering! THANKS!

That's exactly what I plan to do, and then tie a ribbon around to hold the KitKats in place. It'll be great! thumbs_up.gif

Yup, that's all there's to it! Wrap the ribbon around before you put the candies on top though, that will help keep the kit kats in place. Also, The kit-kats are only about 4 1/4" tall, so you have to trim down your cake a bit (if you usually make 4"tall cakes) I made my cakes to be 3.5" tall.... icon_biggrin.gif These are fun/easy cakes to make!

Well, mine was an 8 inch... I'm going to have to guess here... but I went to Walmart and bought the HUGE packs of them...

kit kats come in packs of 4..regular size candy bars. The packs at walmart have 4 of these in them...

I bought 2 big packs, and then had to run and get 3 regular sized ones from the gas station..cuz I ran out...

so I guess that means I used 11 regular sized packs? I would say you'd want to get at least 2 extra packs for the 10" cake...

Don't forget I'm just guessing here...I could be wrong, but I think I'm pretty close! LOL

Cool cake!

This might be s a silly question . . . but when you remove the ribbon and cut the cake does the whole thing fall apart? I don't want a candy avalanche.

Thats so funny I saw this thread... Sarsi, I was just looking at your candy cakes to make for a friend of mine. I swear, I have never seen someone eat so much candy and only weigh like 100 pounds! It would be perfect for her.

Thanks for the inspiration! And I am curious about the previous question... if you take the ribbon off, surely the kitkats wouldnt fall off if they are stuck to the BC?

LOL!!! icon_lol.gif I have no idea! hehehe... I've never been around when they cut it! hahaha..

Okay, just asked my Hubs and he said that it all stayed in place (He took one of them to work with him)...nothing fell off at all, I guess... icon_smile.gif

Twix maybe? That would take a lot of them though!

YES!! Twix would work very nice, and they're taller too! LOL...but as Lisa said, it would take an aweful lot! I thought about that myself when I was making mine...

All of you're cupcakes icon_redface.gif . Does that make me a fan or fanatic? Also love the eyeball cake. My MIL is completely freaked out by eyeballs, if she ever makes me mad she may be getting that one icon_lol.gif .

i loved using the rolled cookies as my edge, however it was very time consuming because my cookies were very long so i had to slowly cut each one down to size in hopes not to crack them!! and then i got a reall cute ribbon that reminded me of chocolate and PB and ran it across the bottom for decoration and attached it with a dab of buttercream

I just made one for my husband's fire station and instead of m&ms I used reese's pieces for a more fall type thing (DH's idea!). So far it looks great! I'll post pics when it is all finished!
