Beautiful house, BTW! I love the fence and gate!

Forgive me, I'm a little behind the times here, what other GB thread? I did a search and didn't find anything that fit what you were saying. Do you have a link?

This is the inspiration I need! I made my first gingerbread house from scratch (not a kit) last year for a local contest, and miracle of miracles, I actually won. Here's my house:

http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=1178910

I am gearing up to do another this year and everyone coming into the bakery asks what I'm doing this year, and the woman who runs the event that sponsors the contest asks me how it's going....aggghhh! I haven't started yet! I also have to do a small house for a local publisher that just published a children's book about a mouse who ate a gingerbread house. I've got to get that one done by the 6th. I'm feeling a bit stressed about the whole thing. My goal for my last house was to use no commercially made products in it whatsoever. I actually did it, except for the cotton "smoke" coming out of the chimney. Everything else was homemade from the gumpaste to the gingerbread. I don't think I'll be that ambitious with the small house I have to do, but I really want to do the same for the big contest house this year. I have a feeling I won't be getting much sleep between now and the beginning of December!!!!!

I'm so excited others love gingerbread as much as I do!
I vote for a CC gingerbread category too. All these wonderful pictures need a gallery =)

A couple of things- bobwonderbuns, if you live in the deep south or a humid climate, your house that fell apart was probably stuck together with RI made with liquid egg whites. I only use (after bitter experience) RI made with powdered egg whites. It sticks forever =)

My candy windows would also melt due to the humidity, so I now use Isomalt sugar substitute, which lasts forever. You can buy it online.

I'm shopping for a gingerbread house cookbook with color photos and advanced techniques.
Any suggestions anybody?

Has anyone else made anything useing the templates Kelly supplied us with? Or anything else actully? I think I've been bitten by the gingerbread bug. There are about half a dozen ideas I'm dying to try out.

I have 3 gingerbread house molds that Longaberger basket came out with in the 90s that I use. You press the gingerbread in, carefully peel out, and bake.

I didn't receive any plans from her. She emailed and said she was updating things.

I am trying to download pics of my haunted dog house. I'm having Kodak Easyshare issues. It came out ok.

I tinted RI a light grey and painted all the pieces with it for a weathered feel. I made black RI and thinned out some to paint the window black. I made two round big white dots for eyes with 2 little black dots and then piped two drooping ears and a pink tongue in the windows that looked like ghost dogs peering out of the house. Put some vines running up the sides. Put candy dog bones and leaves all over the "lawn" of ground up chocolate graham crackers. I would have loved to do so much more but time is a precious commodity.

Sharon that sounds so cute. I hope you get your computer problems fixed soon. I would love to see the results.

Bobwonderbuns, this is what we call beginner's luck! I wish I could give you a tutorial, but it was a learn as you go process. I'll try to take pictures this time in various stages of construction, and hopefully have something to share. I'd like to at least share the "don't do what I did" moments to save everyone a headache or two.

Ok I have just read the entire thread and now I think I have been bitten by the gb bug icon_smile.gif

The talent here is amazing and all the great links!

I have a few questions, hope they are not too silly icon_redface.gif

Does gb spread much or at all, like in comparison to a sugar cookie dough?

Is there a specific RI recipe to use or will any do?

I am so inspired by you all, hope I can squeeze one of these in for Christmas!

Thanks.

Thread Starter
Well shoot i haven't been getting the emails saying that there was activity on this thread.

Hubby and I had a kid free weekend (woo hoo) and i used it to make a template for this years house. i'll have to take a pic and post it in the morning.

So glad to know that this thread is still going thumbs_up.gif. I need to really get my rear in gear and or there's no way i'll get this done. as you'll see when i get the pic taken i may have gone a bit overboard on the size icon_razz.gif
