Well the unmolded ones can be awesome to. Thats what we all used before we found molds ! I dont know what design you were going to do but they would look awesome in different candy /baby colors with a fondant cutout on top or a drizzle or something to match the shower design, No one else knows what you had in your mind !

I ordered some molds Last Friday and received them today by priority mail. They even included a free mold as a "thank you"! That was so nice of them.

I just hope that I don't screw these up somehow. It would be a shame to waste perfectly good oreos.

I think I'm up to about 20 molds, 6 different styles. (Though a couple of those were the single "freebies" they sent.) My all time favorite is the laughing face one. I have 6 of that style so that I can mold an entire package of Oreos in less than half an hour. My second favorite is the plain top. I just did a bunch of those using the orange center Oreos (for Halloween) and topped them with the candy corn Hershey's kisses. Cute and fast!

Does anyone have the Celtic knot mold? I want that mold but it looks like alot of work and I'm not sure how to make the gold on the mold without dust going all over.

I have this one (my kids love anything Celtic). I've just poured in the chocolate, though, nothing fancy. Couldn't you add the gold after they have been molded? Like painting it on?

Yes, I thought about painting it on but it seems it could be quite time consuming... I think Nicholas Lodge has a piping dust recipe but using that much gold to squeeze into the molds would cost me alot in dust. Ho hum! May get them anyway and tinker with some techniques.

I'm not sure if it makes a difference or not, but for those of you who dip by hand not the molds, how far in advance do you dip? I'd like to do these tomorrow for a party Saturday, will they keep? Also, what's the best way to store them? I plan on using orange candy melts to turn them into little pumpkins. Thanks!

You can go ahead and dip them now as long as you are completely covering them in choc, That will keep the cookie itself fresh inside. You can bag them, use a container with a lid, anyway you want to, just keep them cool ( not in the fridge ) Just store in a cool place out of the sun etc !I set mine on an empty counter or another rm out of the way! Your good to go ! You just dont want them to get to warm ( melty ,or to much moisture ) Thats all !

Even with how many molds I already have, I'm thinking about putting them on my Christmas list! I have three of the plain top molds, and could really use three more. It's so-o-o much easier to get a lot of Oreos done if you don't have to wait for the first batch to firm up. And the plain tops are the most versatile for me. I have a number of small chocolate molds that I can use to make "toppers" for the plain ones. You can also get the RI decorations from the store and add those on top. Or the candy corn-type pumpkins for Halloween...those look cute on top!

I just got my molds yesterday. Oh what fun!!!! I did a quick couple of them (between getting the kids ready for ice skating lessons and giving the baby a snack). I did the snowflake mold. Put white candy melts fr the snowflakes and then did a couple with Ghiradelli milk chocolate -which was VERY yummy, but the chocolate was melting all over our hands when we finally tried them later. And I also tried purple candy melts (since they were already on my counter from another project). Those ended up being REALLY hard o bight into. After the kids were in bed, I tried some in the plain mold with choc. transfer sheet designs and dark chocolate. Designs were beautiful, but the choc. still kind of melts when I touch it. I love the whole concept of it and everything, but am I using the wrong choc? I can't imagine what it would be like to package these and then when a person opens it up, they melt all over the place.

Any suggestions? But I DO like the molds....thanks for introducing me to this!

I agree with fiddlesticks...I've never had a melting problem. Are you using real chocolate or dipping chocolate? If real, did you temper it?

ok here is the stupid question....how do I know if it is real chocolate vs. dipping? And which one do I want? The Ghiradelli was baking chocolate - which is why I figured it melted. The candy melts was candy melts. The semi sweet was nestle morsels. Maybe the problem was that I was using stuff for baking. *whoops*

I read about merkins...should I be using that? Or should I be using the Valrhona blocks that I have? I was hoping to be able to offer white choc., milk, and dark.

Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you used REAL chocolate, which needs to be tempered. I've mixed chocolate chips with the CandyMelts and not had a problem. Ghirardelli makes a dipping chocolate which is available (around here) only during the holiday season at Sam's, and it is 2.5 lbs. It says right on the package that it is dipping chocolate.

Is that what I want? Dipping chocolate? How do I temper chocolate?

I've never tempered chocolate. You have to melt it to a specific temperature, then let it cool to another. There could be other criteria, but I'm just not sure. That's why I stick with the dipping chocolate, or confectionery coating (another name for it). For a smoother mouth feel, you can add real chocolate chips.

I actually used the Wilton candy melts and found them to be VERY hard to bite into. Did you add anything to them?

I add paraffin wax sometimes when I use choc chips( the reg baking chips ) I have never had any choc have a melting problem though.
saberger..
GeminiRJ adds 1/2 candy melts 1/2 choc chips maybe you can try that and they wont be as hard for you ?
I dont recall them being hard.
