I'm not really set up for alot of high heat candy work (I don't even have a candy thermometer! LOL)....but anyway one of my boys has chronic urticaria (hives)...he is three...and anyway the things that aggravate his hives most are acids and preservatives. Most candies (except chocolate), even organic, contains plenty of citric acids or preservatives. I am looking for a relatively simple recipe for candy that I can easily use to make lollipops for him (that will keep for a decent amt of time) with simple ingredients like sugar and corn syrup...and would also like to find out if anyone knows where I can find natural food colorings or flavors...like made only from fruit juices or etc?

I am always on the lookout for treats he can have along with "everybody else" and he can eat plain chocolate and M&Ms, and I have found two fruit type sweets that he can safely have...but you know, every kid wants a lollipop once in awhile and that's one thing he can't have unless I mold it out of chocolate.

Thanks!

A hard candy lollipop is simply made up of sugar and corn syrup. Some people add a little water.

Candy makers add citric acid for a number of reasons including as a preservative to make it last longer, but you can leave that out. Depending on the humidity level it should keep for weeks.

I do not have a source for natural flavors and food colorings though but you might contact LorAnn Oils.
