yea! I'm glad I found this thread--I've been recording all the shows on the DVR. I haven't watched last night's show yet--I'll get to later I hope! It looks like I agree with a lot of people on here. My favorites are the Cake Girls. It's funny--my sister and I have talked about going into business together and I hope we could have the working relationship that these two ladies have!

Ruth in New York drives me nuts too. I'm not crazy about gothic cakes either but her attitude is ridiculous and rude! It doesn't surprise me they're not in business together anymore. It seemed like Ruth was always trying to suffocate Laurie's creativity.

And I'm with everyone on the sloppiness of Cake Diva's. And sorry--the name doesn't fit those two. Oh, and I couldn't believe the nerve of the one lady to start grabbing the windmills that the others had been working on. Did you see everyones' faces??!! I think everyone in that room wanted to slap her! Crazy!

Ok was it just me or on the monkey cake did it just look like they just slapped those flowers on? They must have had hidden flower spikes or something.
I totally agree with everyone else that the cake girls are really good. I loved the sports cake last night!! I can't wait to try a baseball cap one day!

The Cake Divas - ewwww! Sorry but I am so grossed out by them and their cakes! UGH

I think that those nose wrinkles and stuff are edited in. I can't imagine how business owners could make those faces at a client. But who knows?! Maybe they're so rich and popular that they can turn their nose up right in a client's face!?

Everyone seems to hate Ruth, but honestly, I don't think she's that bad. It's just that she is so different from Laurie. It's good that they "broke up" because they are just such different people. I really love Ruth's cakes, though. I think she's extremely talented and I like her style. Although, I don't think she should try to push her own style on her clients and business partner (former) so much.

Cake Girls are ok. They are the best on the show, but the show just makes me realize how great Ace of Cakes really is. Everyone on that show has an amazing personality and the cakes are so awesome each and every time. I've never seen an OK cake or an average cake on that show. It just goes to show you how special those guys are!

Well here is my first negative comment about the cake girls icon_sad.gif..... I really preferred the cake without that enormous baseball bat. It looked good, it was an okay likeness (Louisville Slugger, I assume is what they were going for) but was just too darn big. On a smaller scale it might have looked better. To be honest, I thought the cake was insane and fantastic as it was, with just the hat, peanuts & baseballs.

As for the nose wrinkling being edited in, I hope it was but I don't think so. I re-watched it and it looked like that was being done right in front of the customer, and they acted like they had every right to do so!! When the Cakediva lady was taking the order and the customer wanted monkeys, then the redhead was saying "How could you let them order monkeys??'. I was baffled.

If it was a celebrity who wanted it, I bet they would have thought it was eccentric and original......but a regular Joe Six-pack (LOL, I couldn't resist!) then it's not acceptable? I just don't get it. They are supposed to be an outlandish bakery - not conservative like the Cake Atillier - so what's the problem?

The cake that Mark was "flinging" around looked way overbaked to me. Probably dry as hell. I also liked his monkey sketch much better, I think they would have fit the "fun style" of the Bride and Groom. I'm actually surprised they don't do a final sketch for approval by the couple before they execute it. icon_confused.gif
The finished cake was very sloppy....they truly haven't earned the "cake diva" title in my opinion either. But, it seems people are willing to pay them the big bucks. Go figure.

I'm actually happy for Laurie that she no longer has to put up with the miserable Ruth. She completely lied about the 180 individual cake order to Laurie. The bride never brought that idea up it was Ruth that did. Than she flips out about the dropped stand, why the hell didn't they box it up if it was so valuable?

The sports cake was cute, but I do agree that the bat looked more like a caveman's club than a baseball bat. I liked the concept though.

What I've learned from watching this show is...........I'm glad I don't have any assistants, I would hate having to defend my cake design to someone else.

I've been watching the show and I agree that Laurie and Ruth didn't match at all. The stand had a small chip and Ruth looked like she wanted to kill Laurie. No need to go off the deep end over a small chip!
Mark from the Cake Divas is a big baby! If he cries one more time i'll shoot him myself! LOL
The sisters are good together although like the others said that bat was way to big. If she had used a slender smaller one it would have looked great.
One of the reasons I work for myself is so that the only ppl I answer to is the customers!

I just love watching this show!! Yes, we do get some pretty good tips on cake decorating and some good ideas too..

Last night cracked me up!! On Cake Divas, "Marc" is tooooo funny!! The way he breaks out and cries! What was it he said, "he's just an emotional person and he's going through something spiritually"... Awwww........ But "to me", it looked like he was trying to state that the show "evolves" around him, because he is the cake artist..
I couldn't believe it when the other cake owner "broke" that windmill. I am now always asking myself,, "why the heck does she even go in the back", "for what", I don't see her decorating any cakes, etc...it's like she is taking credit away from the helpers and her co-owner, the redhead lady.
Oh, and back to Marc,, yep to me again, it looked liked when he flipped out of the cake pan that square cake, it looked hard as brick! The way he was flipping it! And once again, "all that tons of tons of buttercream icing"...eewww.....
I thought the monkeys were going to have more detail on them. When you saw the finished product, you had to really look hard to see if it was a beige blob or a monkey.. And the monogram,, all I saw was mushy lettering. Perhaps, it could have been more refined? I too, thought they just jammed in those real flowers..
The Cake Atellie, Ruth and Laurie, shame......Ruth is a control freak!! I don't like the way she constantly rolls her eyes and she does try to force her ideas onto the client. And I agree with everyone else, that client did not suggest those 180 cakes!! Ruth did. And then for Ruth to say, "she's done the 180 cakes before, and now Laurie can do it".. What kind of partnership is that?
And when she blew a gasket when Laurie dropped the stand? It was a dinky little itty bitty crack, and she once again flipped out, saying, "it was ruined, it was "very" expensive and its ruined". Like Laurie said, it was going to be covered with cakes, no one was going to notice.. I don't blame this shop for breaking up. Even their new little manager was bashing Laurie, If Laurie is that particular in how she designs cakes, then that means she puts the client first and DOES care about presentation, etc. What is wrong with that?
The Cake Girls, they rocked this week again!! I hope to also get to do a baseball hat cake! I thought her sister was going to just take that large bat off the cake and beat her sister with it..Again I agree with everyone else, that maybe it could have been just a tad smaller, but I thought it added depth with or without it. Do you all think that was part cake (the bat) or all Fondant and Chocolate Modeling Clay?
I can't wait to see what happens next week........

Yes, they married each other this summer, June or July, I think.

This would explain the matching wedding rings...

I love the show! If for no other reason than(even if it is somewhat staged) each situation seems more realistic to me...whether it's the delivering, the last minute changes to orders, the emotional strains of working with varying personalities...

I like each of the "characters" in some way or another. I do think it would be interesting to see Ruth(Cake Atelier) working with Leah(?)(Cake Divas)...both do seem quite controlling.
I would LOOOOOOOOOOVE to work with Mark(?)! He seems like he would be fun(emotional...but fun)

Yeah, I agree with everyone else, I love watching the show. It gives me hope, and at the same time makes me wonder how people work in partnerships. I was trying to sale cookies with a partner and this was just a headache. I think we where kind of like the two ladies in New York. Just two really different personalities. I have a hard time imagining letting go of the control you have when you work alone. But it would be great to have a partner, when you are sick or under the gun. I could look at any show about cakes, but I love this show as much as I love Ace Of Cake. I think that every big time cake decorator has the thing that they are known for and that they do well, and I think you can see that in Amazing Wedding Cakes. I think that they purposely picked these three cake shops due to their different styles and techniques. And lets face it, every show has to have their drama queen - the cake diva's certainly have one on their hands! I just hope they keep turning out shows, because it keeps my imagination fed!

Cake Girls are my fav. although I didn't like that huge baseball bat at all last night, overall they are in my opinion the best. I really don't like Cake Diva's work, those monkeys were awful. Very sloppy work. Laurie from Cake Atelier is such a nice person, her work is good too. But the most important thing is that the customers were happy.

OK - Every week when I watch this show, I think (about the Cake Diva's cake) WOW that is the ugliest cake I have ever seen. This week they have topped themselves - this weeks cake is the ugliest cake I have ever seen. I don't get it! Do their cakes look better in person than on TV? Do they just choose to air the ugliest cake from that week?

Cake Atelier had the best cake of the week.

Ok, so on the monkey cake, it was just totally sloppy. Also the pink cake, OMG It looked like they used the tool you would crimp a pie crust with on all of the edges. What the heck was that about? I'm not sure if we should be embarrassed by their sloppy work that reflects on everyone, or if we should thank them for making our work look better!

I would TOTALLY go work @ cake girls. Or @ Charm City, I love Geoff!

I agree that today's cake was sloppy, but I think it was the least sloppy so far. Mainly the bottom two tiers were sloppy. Especially at the edges.

OK, that pink cake was not pretty. As the show went on I kept thinking "no more please." In my opinion it looked like they had a lot of new decorating toys and wanted to try them all out...on that day...on that cake. How much do you think they charged for it?

I liked the Cake Girls cake the best, again.

Is it just me or does EVERY cake from the Cake Divas look like it was done in a hurry with little thought to making it clean, neat and pretty? I haven't seen a cake yet that they've done that looks good. They all look sloppy and overdone.

Cake Girls - always nicely done and they pay attention to details.

Cake Atelier - Their cakes are pretty, but they all look the same to me: white cake with minimal decorations. Am I the last person in the free world to find out that they're no longer in business??? I didn't realize they closed their shop earlier this year and they've both gone on to their own cake business. I never saw those two girls as being very compatible. Too far at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Wonder who WE will get to replace Cake Atelier if they do another season of the show.

The Cakegirls are always my favorite every week, BUT I have to say I'm slowly becoming a big fan of Lauri! I didn't really care for their (Cake Altelier) first few cakes in the beginning of the season (WAY to plain for me!), but the over the last couple of weeks, Lauri's really been able to show her stuff--those sugar bubbles were SO cool! I loved their cake last night! I'm glad Lauri split from Ruth--I think she'll really be able to spread her wings now...

LOL - Alright, now, don't bash me because I'm gonna be REALLY honest here. I don't like her because 1) she's VERY abrasive and 2) why would you have someone who looks like her be the front of the house? She looks like she never bathes and I can almost smell her nasty body smell thru the TV. You don't have someone like her meeting with clients. You have someone professional looking, CLEAN, and friendly. She's just nasty all the way around.

My husband even commented on how a business could have a representative like her when first impressions are so important.

Wow. Smell can be judged from the TV? Call Emeril, he'll be mad you've somehow beat him to that ability.

I've never thought she looked dirty, just that she doesn't put a lot of stock in make-up or pulling her hair back.

That was harsh.

Maybe so, but when your business is FOOD, you don't want people walking away with the impression that cleanliness and sanitation is an issue. If that's the front of the house, what's in the back???

On a more positive note, I did notice that employees in all three of the bakeries were wearing gloves this week.

Giacakes, we lovingly call ourselves "The Shotgun Wedding Bakery" because you would not believe the amount of phone calls we get for last minute wedding cakes! I did one a couple months ago for two days before the wedding. Do people have no clue that they'll need a cake??? It really is amazing how people who are not in the industry think that you can just pull a cake out of nowhere in minutes for their every need.

So that Cake Divas giant crazy pink (OH so pink when they promised just a hint... yikes) was also in a magazine (well 98% the same and also from them) and I recently had a bride bring it in breathless just WANTING THAT CAKE.... for about 40 ppl. If you squint its really pretty, but once you start looking at the details, yeesh.

So that was the season finale... and I'm feeling a little premature cancellation. I wanted more, even if half of it was a train wreck icon_smile.gif
