It seems like most larger cities now have cupcake shops. Do you have one in your town and where is it located? Urban? Suburban? We do not have one, but I feel there is a market for one, especially Downtown. Just curious what type of locale they seem to do the best in.

We don't have one but we are a smaller town. I don't think there is even one in Ottawa (the nation's capital) but maybe government workers are not "cupcake people". I may have just missed it though.

I live in the Jacksonville Florida area and we have one that I know of. It is actually located in a big mall. I'll bet they have to sell a whole lot of cuppies for that rent!!! Oh and that is all they do too!

In Montreal there are a good half dozen, mainly in the hip and happening parts of town. I have heard mixed reviews about the cupcakes. personally I cannot bring myself to pay $4 for one cupcake (most likely from a mix) with neon colored icing, to taste them for myself.

She is in a 'not great' location next to the freeway and getting into the strip center isnt easy. I hope she makes it because they ARE pretty cute

We have a shop called "Cupcake Island" here in Omaha. They have a store in a busy commercial area, about mid-town (not too long ago they would've been said to be in the western part of the city, but Omaha has been growing like crazy). They charge $2.00 for a plainly iced cupcake, which seems a bit high for Omaha.

In Dallas, there is Sprinkles, which is $$$$$$$. I think I paid $3.25 for ONE cupcake! It was yummy, though.
It's very, very urban. I was expecting some cute little bakery where I could take the kids to sit. It was all concrete and metal with brown walls. lol!

Here in Austin we have a few. Hey Cupcake sells from their airstream trailor. There is Be My Cupcake in one of our malls. But it seems as though they sell best located by University of Texas, the South Congress, and Lamar areas. We have a motto here "Keep Austin Weird". That means that we want the locals and visitors to support the local businesses and not make austin so "chain-y". Austin loves cupcakes!!!

There is one in our town. It is in the downtown area. It doesn't do that well but I think that it is because of how it is run and things.
They serve giant cupcakes and drinks but have no where to sit. Plus the cupcakes are dry and to trendy. There isn't any kids cupcakes or anything. Lots of different flavors though.
I never see anyone in there but I think it is becuase of the things I mentioned.
If done right I think it could work.

I work at the cupcake shop in my town!
Love at First Bite Bakery
Berkeley, CA

yes, cupcakes are pricy, but oh so good!

we're a college town, so we get a lot of business from students. it's also a popular place for fledgling families on weekends. most of the business comes from large orders though. there's 2-3 weddings most weekends.

I live in a suburb and we have one. It's called Baby Cakes and they are AWESOME. Every single cupcake I've tried has been great. They have one and it's a strawberry shortcake cupcake and it's my favorite(which says a lot cause I'm a chocoholic). They also have cookies, muffins and brownies, which are also really good. They do really good business. They are a block from my house, which is dangerous for my figure icon_cry.gif Maybe if I walk there I won't fell so bad about all those calories icon_lol.gif

We had one just open up about a month or so ago. It's not too close by so I haven't tried it yet. They look like they have a great selection and I do want to check them out. It's the only one I know about in this area.

Looks like cupcakes are the bakery trend that's here to stay! I heard it started with Magnolia's in NY. But that was several years ago!

There is one here in our city and I am IN LOVE!!! lol They have the cupcakes for 2.95$ and the mini's for 1.25$. They also serve dainty lunches (quiche, pot pie, wraps, etc...) and high tea. They seem to do really well, there is one downtown and one in a nearby small touristy town. The cupcakes are quite good, and they have some really neat flavor combinations.

I was inspired and created a few of my own flavors for my Dad's b-day party a few weeks ago. My family all said they liked mine better lol (I guess they have to say that though, right?? lol) ...pic's in my photos.

I just honeymooned in a place right outside of Wilmington NC and there is a cupcake shop in Wilmington. We did not get a chance to go into town until the last day on our way out and they were closed. On a Satuarday morning at 10AM. We could see someone inside but the door was locked and the shelves where empty. I was sooooo disappointed, I wanted a cupcake.

But of course, they were also in the middle of Hurrican Hannah.

We have one that's open that I know of and another on the way. I live in a mid-size city. I really don't think that the market would be that great to support 2 shops. We already have several bakeries that sell cupcakes. I've never been in the shop, but I've heard about it. They sell their cupcakes for about $3 each (I think $31/dozen). One comment this person told me was she wish it had later hours. This is a pretty huge restaurant city, and I would think that people would be more likely to buy after going out to eat. They're only open 930-530 Tues-Fri & 10-1 on Sat. It will be interesting to see how things go. I don't think I would pay $3 per cupcake, but I may have to break down & try one to see if they're worth it.
