Okay doing a cake where I have to make fondant stars on spiral pieces of wire. How would I do this without the stars falling over.

I made them once before and I could keep them straight. Also what type of wire do you use?? Maybe I used the wrong king!!

I use covered floral wire, whatever the heaviest gauge (lowest number) is at the craft store.

18 guage florist wire (covered wire) twist arounf a cylinder shape to make into sprial. make stars ans allow to fully dry, heat end of wire very very hot with a lighter and insert in star. heat from wire will melt into the star and once cooled will hold firm

What I did when I made stars for my rabbit in a hat cake is to cut out the stars and then insert the wire while they were soft. I had already gently bent my wires into the shape I wanted. Then I just inserted them into the cake when they were dry...

Do i push the wire all the way to the bottom of the cake to keep them from falling over? Im using BC frosting will that matter?

it reallydepends on the weight of the spike (the star on wire) if they are a bit heavy push them right in, if they will hold without pushing them in you can do that too. if it is BC i wouldn't put them in until you have delivered it as they have a higher chence of moving

I buy the wire that is for the back of picture frames. I am not sure of the guage, but I buy it at Wal-Mart in the hardware department. It is silver. It comes coiled around itself. I find that it works great for what I have used it for. If you look in my photos you will see it. I usually will do a cute fondant ball decorated and let it harden up a few days in advance and use it on top of my cake to add support to the wire and then insert the wire all the way through that and my top tier. (I hope that made sense,lol) look at some of my photos and you will see what I am talking about,lol.
