How about line the side of the cake with twix bars, like this cake does using Kit Kats? http://cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=827963

Vanilla cake with caramel filling and chocolate icing or chocolate filling with caramel icing....

Do some combo of the above and put a layer of shortbread cookie under each layer?

Make shortbread cookies with chocolate and caramel on them for part of the decoration or use actual Twix like Debi mentioned?

Sounds fun!

The best thing would be to make a chocolate cake with caramel filling.
The best caramel filling ever is to make a caramel out of sugar and when is already melted add heavy cream slowly until it mixes completely. You´ll love it, it tastes just like twix caramel. For covering the cake I recommend a chocolate ganache made with 12 oz of bittersweet chocolate and 1 3/4 cups of cream.
I hope you like it!!

What about a graham cracker flavored cake, my local cake shop has graham cracker flavoring, and fill with whipped chocolate ganache and caramel?

I do something similar for my turtle cake. The filling has ganache on the bottom, and then the caramel is drizzled on top, and then I top it with chopped pecans. Just make sure you cool the caramel and ganache down enough before you put them on the cake, because if they are hot, it can make the cake soggy.

Also, if you already have a decorating idea in mind and are looking for a filling...I like to use candied buttercream. I take my favorite buttercream and add the candy bars chopped up very finely. In this case you could also do a caramel buttercream with the chopped twix mixed in. Either would be delicious!
