I have a 4-tier wedding cake frosted in Buttercream, piped in buttercream and the flowers are made of royal icing (not applied to cake yet). I have made a cake previously with buttercream and royal icing decorations and after refrigerating overnight I came in to find a SCARY mess of color bleeding everywhere
My question is: can you refrigerate this cake with the royal icing flowers on it (safely ) for a day or two or should I apply the flowers the day of prior to transport???
I appreciate any input that will educate me on this matter.
THANKS
Joan
I agree with the above poster. Put your flowers on as late as possible. They will start to get soft when they are against the buttercream. I've also had those melted flowers and it's not nice, especially when you put all of that work into them!
Best Wishes,
Chrissy
That's what I was afraid of. Oh well I guess I will put the flowers on a few hours before delivery.
Thanks again!
Yeah, moisture and RI just don't get along. They get soft and as you saw, colors bleed.
Don't feel stupid. I have been decorating for 8 years and I still good up like forgetting to put sugar in a recipe. Now that's just plain ol' dumb right!
Good luck with your cake. I bet it's beautiful!!!
