Hi everyone! Here's an attempt at finding others in WI who would like to start a dialogue. Anyone interested in getting a Cake Club going? Virtual or live and in person - just state your ideas, specialties, things you'like to learn / teach ... or just chat about!
Hope a few people find this thread!
Liza
Hello! I'm in Edgerton, about 20 minutes south of Madison. I would love a cake club. What would we do? Do we have monthly meetings to discuss new ideas and show off our work? It sounds like fun. Could we have the meetings in different locations throughout southern WI, so if you can't make it to one location maybe you can make it to another. I am pretty busy most of the time, but if we plan long enough ahead of time it could be easier to schedule around.
Oh yeah, my name is Sarah. I'm 28 years old. I'm married to my incredible husband Leigh we have 2 boys ages 2 and 9. I work full time. I make cakes as a hobby, and if I can make a little extra money that's always a plus.
There is a WI chapter of ICES that meets twice a year for days of sharing. I just checked the website (just search for ICES WI) and there is one coming up in November in La Crosse. Past events have been in Middleton and Delafield, so it looks like this one is a bit farther away for me.
I do cakes as a hobby, but enjoy these types of events whenever they are available. Monthly meetings would be fun.
Hey Everyone,
I'm in Eau Claire. I am just getting my business up and running. Right now I am looking for a location to rent. I currently work out of an already licensed kitchen but want my own place. So I have my business license and getting going with advertising but I still work full-time so not pushing it too hard right now.
I would be interested in being part of the cake club. Can't wait to hear more!!
I looked at some websites of other cake clubs on CC and here is what I found.
They meet monthly at the same location.
They pay around $25 a year to be a member to cover costs of mailings and such.
They usually have a demonstration, and bring treats to share.
Some of them have a specified person each month to make a cake for a designated charity.
They also have a president, VP, treasurer, and a web designer.
Their location is more centralized than the whole state for obvious reasons. But, I think for now we accept anyone who can make it, and branch out later on.
Just some thoughts. Anyone else have ideas?
I am in Beaver Dam, which is a bit NE of Madison.
Wonder if we could work on a newsletter via e-mail??
We could maybe have a theme for each month, maybe give cake ideas or we could submit pictures of cakes for the themes?
I am really not sure what these clubs do at meetings or between meetings??
One thing I wish Wisconsin had, were more competitions, they are great learning experiences!

Hi everyone! I can't stay long (busy day) but I love all the ideas! Is anyone talented at mapping? Perhaps map our locations and see nearest big cities to meet? I'd be happy to donate money for admin coverage (time spent organizing and such) - though I honestly don't think we need *postage* - I think internet communications could work and cover our needs --via word or pdf formats. What do you guys think?
I'm a wanna-be Baker for Profit, but can't yet
Skills: organiztion, editing, research, public speaking, creatively re-purposing tools
Would love to learn: stacking, speed cookie decorating, FBCT, sharp edges with fondant
Confident with: basic fondant, basic 3D carving
Looking for from CakeClub: socializing w creative cakers, learning new techniques, perhaps give some pointers of my own, a regular event to get OUT and GO to without my KIDS lol ...
Unfortnately Madison maybe too far of a drive for me since I'm on the western side of the state. But I would still love to do the online version of the club. Maybe having a monthly newsletter or something. Keep me informed. Thanks everyone!
I am also in southern WI. I'm really new to cake decorating but am loving it. I have alot to learn so anything that helps me learn is great!

I could sure try to get to Madison ... and also would be happy to club online in addition. I must say that I'd *really* like to meet new peeps lol. With the colder months approaching, however, I think it might be a greater challenge - so if people don't show, we shouldn't take it as lack of interest, just life getting in the way of plans lol.
Are there any free live chat services where we could have something like Friday Night Cake Club (of course on a different night lol)? It would be nice to be real-time, but of couse we could simply post a new thread here each new 'club night'.
Say, could everyone list strengths (what you may be able to teach or write about) and techniques you'd like to learn? That might give us a jumping off point! And/or theme ideas?
I'd also be interested! I've only started as a hobby this past year, so I'm not sure how much I could offer that way, but would be able to help on the organization/communication end. I'm also in the Milwaukee area. Thanks for starting this sarahpierce!
***WOW*** Tons of cake stuff for sale in Wauwatosa!! A very nice lady, Gayle, is shutting her cake business and is selling EVERYTHING.
Please see her Craigslist post: http://milwaukee.craigslist.org/bfs/815258836.html
I told her since I'm small-time, I'll post here and defer to you legit business-ladies! lol Hope you guys can score some great deals! I intend to pick from the scraps
Where were you guys like a year ago when I was looking around for WI people!? just kidding!
all kidding aside, I am in the Southeast area of WI...ya'll might have heard of little ol' Kenosha!? yep! that's me!
I would love to join in on the fun! I think that doing something online would be a GREAT thing! hey! how about we just start up a freewebs site that we can all have access to? that way we can all post pictures for each other and such! just an idea!
I know that I have msn live right now and it is a GREAT way to have a group chat online. and it's FREE! especially with us all being in the state of SNOW...we should definitely consider doing online stuff for now. It's so hard to get around this state especially in the winter months.
so, just my two cents! man, my husband is going to kill me for having another thing to do online! OH WELL!
I was so excited to see this thread. I'm in Walworth...right on the IL/WI border. I've been decorating as a serious hobby for about a year and would love to be a part of a cake club. I have some excellent recipes/substitutions and creative ideas. As far as things I would like to learn...EVERYTHING! I've not done any work with bc roses and very little with gumpaste (bows). Chocolate transfers and cookies on on the top of my list of things to learn.
I think we could do an online/in person combo. What do you think about meeting in person quarterly or twice a year and online more frequently?
ATTENTION!! ATTENTION!!! ATTENTION!!!!!!
O.K., now that I have your attention . On Sept 15th at 11am The Cakery in Edgerton, WI is having an auction. They have always been the best bakery for miles, and have been doing business since I can remember. They sold earlier this year, and now they are auctioning everything off. I don't know what items they have. They only have a sign outside that says "auction, sept 15, 11 am" Sorry I don't know more. But, they are right down the street from me. They are located on Main street (hwy 51) about a block down from Kwik Trip. I plan on going.
Cool about the auction - thx sarahpierce
Here's a repeat of another sell-off:
I got over $150 worth for about $60
