I am not sure if anyone else has seen this in the store, but I saw that Crisco is making a fully hydrogenated shortening now. So it does not have any trans fats! I don't know if other people try to avoid them like I do. Just thought I'd pass that along. I didn't look at the price or anything, so I don't know if it is more expensive or not.

I've seen it....it is more expensive, at least where I am. And at my grocery store, they only offer it in a small size...like almost half the size of a regular container of shortening and it's I think almost $1.50 more than the regular one in a regular size!! That's just too much, to me. I'd love to use it, but I'd spend a fortune on it as much as I would use it for my frostings....lol

I did notice that there were no large containers. Hmmm. And like I said, I didn't look at the price. Oh well!

Yep, we had a discussion on transfat somewhere on the board. I think in the cake decorating forum?? Can't remember.

But I did finally buy some. Here it is about 50 cents more than the regular one. I checked out their website and right now they only have it in the small can and the premeasured sticks. I got the sticks at $2.99.

I read about it in Cooks Illustrated. They did some taste tests and concluded it was fine to use. They noted that somethings were a tiny bit different. For example, the pie crust was not as nice, but the difference was so small it did not matter.

Well in Canada, I believe it is next year, there will be a total ban on products containing transfats. But has the "0" transfats Crisco hit the stores here yet, haha, no, at least not where I am. I keep checking though.
Appears to be the general consensus that it works just fine in the icing, at least that is what I am hearing.
