The bride whom is american and the groom is from Mexico , she wanted a tres leche cake but mother of the bride said no. She asked me to just make anything because it did not matter anymore about the flavors. Does anyone have a cake recipe that could incorporate some flavors from mexico , I found one with ancho chilli powder but that might go to far with the spice factor. I would like to make this special for both using both cultural backgrounds
Thanks

My whole family, blood and extended, is one big multi-cultural entity, so I know what you are going through. It is difficult to please everyone at the same time.

I love chocolate ancho cake! Ancho is one of my favorite of all the chiles, and is considered mild on the Scoville Heat Scale, also known as Scoville Rating. It only adds a mild savory shadow to the chocolate, no heat. It is also great on chicken and pork.

Mexican wedding cakes, called Polvorones, are actually a butter shortbread and nut cookie, and are to die for tasty. I do not know what the decor of the cake is, but if you are using fondant balls as a bottom border, you could bake off some of them and use them as the bottom border, instead.

Another alternative would be a truffle border, with chocolate ancho or chocolate cayenne truffles.

A solution might also be found in a fruit filling. Have you done any research on the fruits of Mexico?

You can always talk them into doing the tres leches cake as a groom's cake.
