Thank you CC for all of your help so far. I am a self taught baker and decorator and have learned so much from all of you!

Could you please explain full sheet, half sheet, and quarter sheet sizes?

Thanks again!

The sheet cake pans commonly range from 13x9 to 16/18 x24....

That being said, most customers know the term "sheet cake" but usually have no idea how many servings it actually yields. (They could be saying full sheet cake and thinking 13x9x2.)

Here's a thread that discusses sheet cake sizes and more:

To make sure your customer gets the proper size sheet cake to yield the number of servings required - just ask them how many servings they need (and then you pick the appropriate size pan).

Indydebi does the math for single layer sheet cake servings:

In case you have a commercial oven, here are some scratch recipes that will fill a full sheet cake pan (or 2 half-sheets):

Too true! My favorite story is a friend who asked for my price on a "full" sheet cake. Knowing tha cake civilians have NO idea how big cakes are, I asked him "How many do you need it to serve?"

He said ......

You're gonna die when you hear it ......

He said......

He really said .......

"Ten."

OMG. Too funny! I find that around here a lot!! People ask for a sheet cake "like at sam's" and I go....First, how many people do you have to feed!! Then I tell them what it will cost to feed that many!

Or the customer actually wants a full sheet cake and thinks they can get one for $20 at walmart to feed everyone.....nope...you are thinking the really big one which is never going to only be $20!!!
