So, who's still up? Got four more tiers to ice and decorate, but it's a fast design. then I need to dye some fondant. and clean the kitchen. and prep four tiers for tomorrow. Not bad.
I'm here. Restaurant customer called for two more cakes by the morning "if I have time". I was looking forward to going to bed early tonight. Grrr!
What time are you going to sleep? Do you have helpers?
I am! My neice she is 9yrs old and she is spending the night and we are baking cakes for tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be decorating them. I am making a small two tiered cake (probably 6" and 8") and she will be making a 6". She is really excited about it!
No, no helpers. I'm a one-woman show. I've got a couple of hours. this cake is really easy.
My kitchen has all the creature comforts --laptop and flat panel TV that's on constantly. Seriously if I had a cot, I'd probably never get out of here.
Leahs, I'm tired just thinking about what you have to do. I decorate really slow so I wouldn't finish with something like that until Saturday night!
I know the feeling about the comforts. Had a little 15" tv in kitchen that broke and store had to replace it but the didn't have any like it so they "had" to give me a 19" flat screen. That was so hard for me to deal with.
Just got a new stove two weeks ago so I'm really in the mood to bake
I'm here I have not cakes tonight I was just thinking about the past two Fridays where id did pull all nighters but it was fun but tomorrow I'll start working on gum paste flowers for a cake for next week

I'm making a Sparkle Cake." It's the one that's totally covered in Wilton's Sparkling Sugar. the base ice can be crappy, no smoothing, just slap on the icing and cover in sugar. I've got three tiers already done.
Well since people are awake can you answer a question for me. I'm about to open my first big tub of Satin Ice. Never used it before. I've had it for several weeks. Haven't needed anything except bc. Tonight I'm finishing a cake for my 2 yr. old granddaughter. I just need a little fondant for some detail. I really want to try the new stuff. If I open it how long will it last without drying up? It's a 20 lb. bucket and I only need like a pound! Maybe I shouldn't open it. But I don't want to make fondant tonight! What do you think?
Hello! I'm here and wide awake. Yay for caking.
Cocobean-I use Satin Ice all the time. As long as you get an air tight seal on the bag around the fondant and the bucket it should last long time.
LOL...I am up too. I don't have any cakes this weekend but wish I did. Tonight I bought myself my first real set of pans, the 3 set square ones and I can't wait to use them. I guess you would call me a hobbyist but with the "real" stuff I can so see me growing and just having some fun!

I have a 20# that's been open for maybe 2 months, it's fine. I just always twist the bag up tight & make sure the lid is sealed after I take out what I need.
I'm up, have to ice/fondant 6-9-12 squares. Design is pretty plain, just pink & brown fondant ribbons around top & bottom tiers, pink on the middle & real pink ribbon on edge of the bottom board. Delivery is late tomorrow, so I'll get them covered tonight & do the ribbons tomorrow.
Just tie up the bag around the SatinIce, and if you can manage it, put the bag into the bucket upside down to keep air out of the bag.

I have a bucket of Satin Ice(20lb) I opened it the 1st of June I just rewrap it really good and store it in its bucket in a cool place my pantry and i'm still using it. It's still nice soft and tasty I have so far only used 1/2 but after this week I will finish it.

Thanks for the Satin Ice help girls. O.K. I'm sooo excited I going to open it now!!! Got to color a little black and a little red. Hope it colors (dark) better than the homemade.
Gosh all this cake talk is making me want to get up and start on my flowers and cake decoration to night

yeah i'm up too...i had a cake that kicked my @ss tonight. i did several cakes for customers today actually. now i just need to get off the computer and clean the KITCHEN! i swear...the first employee i hire will be a dishwasher. i hate to clean it all up!
One of these fridays I'll be in the same boat as you are... but I just got done with my friday night.... 32 orders--aka three racks of boxed 1/4, 1/2 and full sheets at the grocery store. UGH. I need to get out of there!!
Tugboat, what are the cakes for? A party?!
Yeah sort of...I am making myself a "belated" birthday cake. We have some family in town so I thought it would be a good time to make cake! My neice just wants to learn how to decorate cakes so I thought it would be fun for her to make and decorate her own cake!
I'm here too! Just got done after 13 long hours of working on a 3 tier wedding and 2 tier grooms cake for tomorrow. Almost everything that could go wrong with the icing for the wedding cake did! The only thing left for the morning is to dip the strawberries and put on the grooms cake and to put the top tier on the brides. Someday I hope to be as fast as leahs!
lol..you guys..I finish my weddings already...It was an easy week..next week I have 7..kind of crazy

Really, guys, the Sparkle Cake is the easiest thing ever. NO smoothing. Sugar all over it. easy. And I charge extra for doing the sugar!
And the cake had been prepped - torted, filled and settled before I started tonight.
OK ladies. I'm outta here. I am exhausted. I hope everyone has a productive night and a wonderful weekend!!
Me too. I'm going to bed. Cakes will get prepped early tomorrow morning to settle during the day for tomorrow nght's decorating!
You guys are making me jealous....I need more customers!!
I'm doing a couple of cakes next week, already been paid for, for my friend...I"m hoping that her family will like it enough to pass the word around...
Do you think it would be tacky to send along a couple of cards with my friend to the party?? Tell me what you think...
Oh and what's a really good and really fast chocolate filling that I don't have to worry about refridgerating??? Any ideas??
