I see a little tiny crack, but it appears to be only in the icing. Buttercream does tend to develop tiny hairline cracks. It looks to me like that is what happened here. I wouldn't refund her anything either. She already got a heck of deal on the cake.

If she wanted perfectly smooth icing, she should have ordered fondant. Truthfully, my husband would have freaked out on her. I am always forever making sure my buttercream is extremely smooth. My husband constantly walks by saying, "IT'S CAKE", IT'S FOOD, NOT A PLASTIC BOX". LOL 
But you know how we are. I sometimes get little cracks in my cake. Your cake was great, tell her to get over it, especially for that price. 
Huh? A crack in the cake or a crack in the icing? There is probably no distinction to people outside of the cake world. Maybe I didn't look at the right spot in the photo, but I only see a small crack in the icing. 
Which isn't surprising if the BC was sitting out for 5+ hours.
Is there any proof that this picture was taken after or during the sheet cake was being cut? If so, I wouldn't offer a refund. I think next time, I wouldn't give such a big discount, a $1.70 a serving and people are STILL ungrateful 
Lovely cake! I'm a bit confused. Has she asked for a refund or are you just thinking about offering her one? Did the crack in the rear of her cake ruin her wedding/reception/photos of her shoving cake in her new husband's face?!? Get a life and congrats on their happy nuptial

Honestly, I don't see anything on that cake except a slight mark in the icing but even it doesn't look like a crack more like someone brushed the cake with something...like the corner of a bakery box lid or something when taking the cake out. That definitely isn't damage to the "cake" part.
Seems to me that your "friend" didn't have as many "friends" come to the wedding as she thought she'd have! Why on earth would they order the sheet cake in addition....surely they had some kind of idea how many people would be in attendance? I think people didn't show and she was hurt and then became angry about having to pay for all the left over cake and probably left over food from a caterer and in her despair began lashing out ...I wonder if she's also asked the caterer for a refund for the extra food?

That cake is lovely. Please do not refund her. She probably does this all the time and will continue to do so. Don't worry about her badmouthing you since you have already talked to guests at the party and they thought it looked great.
She is also probably known for being a PITA so when people hear her complain, they are rolling their eyes.
I think your cake looks really nice, and even on the closeup picture saw nothing that would give that "friend" bride any reason to complain.
The only thing I did see in the picture that was taken from a distance was that maybe you could ice the sides a tad thicker. It looked like you could kind of see the filling through the icing - something I've had a problem with in the past, so maybe I'm sensitive to it?? Anyway, just trying to help, please know that I thought your cake was lovely....and a bargain!!

Let me say someone asked if she asked or not for a refund. No she hasent she just mentioned4 days after the wedding about 4 times in the 1 phone call about the issue she had. What exactly is the problem with a cracked cake? I understand the problem with a cake that crashes to the floor, but cracked? If it is truly "Cracked" it exposes the cake itself and then that piece might be dried out... so if she does ask for a refund (and it doesn't look like she will) she should get $1.78 at the most. The price of ONE PIECE of cake that might have been affected by the crack.
Cake was beautiful, she had a great show piece at the wedding and enough cake for all the guests. She is nuts, I wouldn't think 2 more seconds about this. You did her a huge favor and she should be GRATEFUL not whiney.
Oh, and when she calls about the baby shower cake..... you're booked!

The friend with the pictures stopped by. And a clock in the background of the picture confirms that the photo was taken at 8:15 PM The picture posted at the beginning of this post confirms time of delivery and set up compleat at 2:00 (almost 2) The ONLY thing I see in the 8:15 photo is a SLIGHT drooping MAYBE of the top boarder which might indicate a problem.THAT SAID ok The cake stood and did fine also when my friend left at about 9:00 pm there was still about 1/4 or maybe a bit less. Of the sheet cake left. She did say lots of kids ect... BUT NO, NO REFUND willbe offered or given!! and no not 10% off next order I dont want to encourage her to order again and booked... YES TILL I RETIRE!
I will probably not get the picture of the cake taken at 8:15 until tonight but I will post it as soon as I get it.

Cake civilians just don't understand how durable cakes really are. At one of my weddings, I was standing in the corner during the cake cutting pic. They were cutting into the bottom tier. A very sweet, gray haired lady said to the person next to her, "Oh my god, they've cut the bottom cake! I hope it doesn't fall over!!!!" I leaned down and said to her, "Don't worry .... I've never had a cake topple yet!" Bless her heart, she pressed her hand to her heart and said, "oh my .... good!!!"
But she thought if they cut a 1x2" piece of cake from the bottom tier, then the whole cake would just topple over!

The cake looks lovely. The bride, on the other hand, needed a slip that covered the area between her bra and pants.
The picture of them feeding each other cake with the cake standing tall and proud next to them is proof enough. I don't think that refusing to give her a refund will hurt your business at all. She probably took the wedding gown back and tried to get a refund too, probably without even springing for dry cleaning to make it look like it wasn't worn some people are just like that.

What's amazing to me is that the bride was so consumed with the cake and how much of it was left over and so forth. At my wedding, I was there when my cake was delivered and set up. Then I got married. At the reception, I peeked at the cake with my new DH. It was still beautiful. After we did the whole cutting ceremony thing, I never looked at it or thought about it again. I ate, drank, danced and enjoyed my guests. Then I went to my new home and left for my honeymoon the next day. After the honeymoon my Mom gave us the packaged top tier to save. Other then that, I have NO idea what happened to the leftovers or even if there were any.
This gal's new DH must have had a grand reception and honeymoon if this is how his new wife has chosen to spend their first days of wedded bliss. Come On! Is there nothing better for her to do?

The cake looks great throughout all the pictures. I too remember my wedding/cutting/toasting portion of our reception and after that we just had fun with the guests. My DH was bummed he didn't get more of our cake after the fact - the anniversary cake was some of the grooms cake - don't get him started on that. Anyway, I think you did a fine outstanding job on the cake. When you meet with her, let her take the lead? Maybe? There is nothing to apologize for AT ALL. Let her "rant" and offer nothing - you don't need to.

I STILL see nothing wrong with the cake. Even if she does put up a big fuss about a refund, and you end up in court, those pictures alone speak a thousand words. I think she is just trying to get extra money.
I would not refund or offer a discount. I'd cut this one loose and make a mental note to not do anymore cakes for this client.
