I need to decorate with a lot of Metallic Gold. Can I add gold luster dust to royal icing? Or is there another trick to this.

I don't think that you can mix it in. When I make gold on fondant, I make the fondant a goldish color using golden yellow and a touch of brown, so it's kind of bronze then I dust it heavily in the gold dust.

You can use hi-liter dusts to achieve a brilliant gold. If you need more info, please e-mail me
