Hi there. I have a wedding cake due Saturday. The bride is planning on having fresh calla lilies on the top tier, instead of a topper. She wants 2 lilies lying down on the top. I've never put fresh flowers on a cake before, and calla lilies are not listed as non-toxic in the CC article....Should I do something to these flowers like lie them on plastic wrap/parchment paper? Will they even stay alive-looking for the whole evening, just lying there? Thanks in advance for any help!

Even if their not on the toxic list you still have to be careful because most flowers will have some sort of pesticide. Your best bet is to put a fondant covered cake plate on the top so that they dont actually touch the cake. As far as them staying all night its going to be up to the weather. The more humid it is, the more its likely to be wilted by the end of the night. Not sure how she wants them layed on top but I would try to conceil a floral pick containing water some way so it stays fresh. But if its going to show then I would opt not to.
