You can also do this technique with 2bags of different colored icing like a red bag and a white bag side by side it makes beautiful two colored roses or borders what ever!
I read this post quite some time ago but never tried it (actually forgot about it) until last week when I had to make a basketweave cake. I made the plugs up and when I needed to change them out it was so easy. Just pull out the used one and put in a fresh one. No more air in the bag from putting a refill of icing in it. This is just great. This will be my new standard. I may have to give this a try for RI flowers as well.
Thank you so much for the tip and the great pictorial.
I saw your post and used this method last night.....one of the biggest time saving tips I have found thus far on Cake Central. This site rocks! Thank you Flayvurdfun!
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. I always make such a mess trying to fill the bag. I'm thinking if you are using disposable parchment bags, the wrap will help to keep the bag from bursting open if you apply too much pressure. My old hands aren't very flexible, so sometimes I squeeze to hard. Being new to this decorating thing, this trick will be a lifesaver. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
This is such a great idea I am going to give it a try on Friday when I frost my cake. I hate washing those featherweight bags between colors!
What a great idea! Thank you for the pictures! I can't wait to try this technique out!
I found a video on Pinterest that demos this as well! Pretty useful! I hate cleaning out the bags.

Please, please, pulllleeeez put this in the tutorial section!!! This is awesome! If it was in the tutorials many more could find it without sifting through the forums and also could save it. You did a great job with the pictures and explained it beautifully! I hate paying an arm and a leg for the disposable bags but after seeing this I think I could save a ton on them by being able to change colors out so easily! You've made my day & my wallet happy!
