in the past i've heard many people ask where they can find tall and large cake boxes (to hold 3d carved cakes or stacked cakes). i came across this website today (referred by this thread: http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=5939468#5939468 ) and thought i'd post it in case it could help someone.

Seems expensive to me, $22 for one box. I can go to Walmart and get an 18 by 18 by 18 box and cut down one side for about $3. Then I tape it on each cut edge and it works great. That's what works for me.

For all my stacked cakes I take the cake box, assemble it and then cut off the top and tape it to the back of the box so it stands up. Then I put the cake in the boX and saran wrap it so nothing gets inside. Works great for me and I buy my boxes for under a buck each so its really cheap.
I like the idea of the boxes for stacked cakes but they are so expensive, and some people like to keep the cake box and then I would have to charge them and I can just imagine the look on their face when I tell them "ok that will be 22$ bucks for the box"

oops, sorry i didnt add the link! thanks for posting it for me.

i too think its pricey, but in the past, i have seen people saying they didnt want to cut and tape and prop and stuff because it looked unprofessional. there are times when it doesnt matter much, and other times it does.

anyhoo....for those that do want a box that doesnt need to be altered, they are there on the site, several sizes.

I bake for family and friends and use the Domino sugar boxes from Sam's for my 3D cakes. I cut one end so it folds out, put the cake in and tape it back up. I put saran wrap over the top to keep it covered. I also use a small piece of grippy rubber foam (From the dollar store) under the cake board in the box so it doesn't slide around in it. Noone has ever said anything about the boxes-although if it were for a stranger buying it from a bakery, I can see where this might not be professional enough. Still, it's a confectionary sugar box, so it stands to reason you'd have them. And it's free, so you can't argue with that!

By the way, the lids from the same boxes that these big 7 pound bags of sugar come in at Sam's is the perfect size for 13X19 sheet cakes. Again, I just put saran wrap over the top and it's good to go. The customer can unfold one end and slide the cake out easily. These are all white/no writing and very clean. And free!!!!
