cut dowells, cover cake bases, take pictures, help me with the colors ( I am pretty bat when I need to mach something), we talls me what do I have to put for final details, he does the groserry shopping, he gets me whta I need really late at night, he has done borders, he help with proportion in my figurines, etc
But, best of all 90 % of the time he stays awake with me untill I finish the cakes (usually 2 or 3 a.m.)

Also, usually he delivers the cakes.

I am a lucky women, I cannot do this without him.

I love him!

My hubby often helps calm me when I am stressing. He will also do last minute errands when I run out of a supply. I often ask him for advice, but tonight I didn't like his advice and kicked him out of the kitchen. icon_mad.gif

Other than that, he is very supportive, and was the one who looked on craigslist for another fridge when I was getting so busy.

My husband is great when it comes to picking up things I need (or even just want!).

I have been disappointed that he doesn't seem to be encourage my cake making and is often critical of the cakes I make, saying "it would look nicer if you did blah blah blah..." Really, all I hear is blah blah blah and I realise that he thinks every cake I make should be a rectangle with a FBCT on the top.

I'm sure he would help me wash dishes if I ask, but I don't bother asking...

well if was not for my husband I probably would not be on this website today. He told me I needed friends or a hobby. So one day I was at Hobby Lobby looking around wasting some time and came across cake decorating classes. I told my honey that I thought that cake decorating might sound fun to me or maybe jewelry making. The next week he came home with the 101 pc Wilton box and a paid class for Wilton 1 course. I took that class and had a blast, then the next class and the next. The irony of this story is that he does all the cooking in our house, because he is better at it. I was the baker of cookies and pies and box cakes with just can frosting was my moto. Now, when I have a bunch of cakes to do he helps me with making and by the way, he is awesome at the stars. He has made several cakes in my photo's the easter egg cake, bikini cake and the pink hat cake. I think he likes to decorate as much as I do now. He has even taken off work a time or two to help with anything I need. You have to love the ones that will help and support you in the things that you enjoy doing. And I love it when he comes home with that 25 lbs box of powder sugar it is as good as flowers to me.

My hubby is a great supporter and cheerleader. He cuts the bases and puts extra pieces on the bottom so that I (or he) can pick it up. He never complains about me buying cake stuff and even recommended that I take the class with Bronwen Weber recently. He doesn't mind the gumpaste pieces that I'm working on hanging around the counters along the cookbooks, and recipes, and pictures and....you get it.

He doesn't actually bake, make icing or clean because I'm pretty picky about that but he's great to help and support when I need it.

I took my first lessons a year or 2 before we started dating but we worked together and I brought all of my class cakes to work. He really liked them and shortly after we started dating, they were having a big surprise party for his mom. He wanted me to bring a cake. I asked him if that was okay since we weren't actually planning the party (we live 8 hours from them) but he said that he liked my cakes and wanted me to make a cake for it. That was 16 years ago and he's been supportive ever since.

My Dh and I are both Professional Chefs and we are our own worst critics, lol I stay out of his way when he's there and he stays in the next room when I am in there LOL.
But he's my #1 supporter!

my dh is the major reason i'm going as far as i am in this business. we are in the process of becoming a licensed home cake business. he loves to make realistic gp flowers, fondant figures, carving, fondant covering of the cakes. he is taking his own classes at cake camp while i take mine then we will share. we love to be in the kitchen making fondant stuff. he also cuts boards and covers them. he really is dying to try extension work even though he doesn't pipe or has never used royal icing. he is honest of my work and cake. and by far he is my biggest promoter. i'm afraid he may talk about too much sometimes icon_smile.gif

My DH was not supportive at all when I started with culinary school or decorating cakes. He hated every part about it, but the eating he got to do. So much so that it was affecting our marriage and we were at odds with each other.
Fast forward 2 years later and he was bragging to everyone when I graduated culinary school and was telling them even my grades. I talked him into helping me at an event for 300 people that I was making desserts for. That's when he realized how much work it was and that it wasn't easy like he thought. We worked 12 hours straight that day and his back and feet were killing him, but he was really happy. He loved it and apologized for being such a jerk and putting me down. He even helped some of the other chefs there with their tables since it was for charity.
He now wants to focus on helping me make cakes (he doesn't care yet about the other desserts I do) He really just wants to jump in now. Jon's even talking about many years down the road quitting his computer business and opening up a little cake/pastry/brunch store front together. I think he's crazy but he's motivated I will give you that. He even made our daughters birthday cake that's in my photos. It's a Pikachu cake from Pokemon. I love that he's now about helping out. He's done a total 180 degree turn since when I first started and I couldn't be happier.

my hubby is great! he'll take the kids (3 and 4 and my 4 yr old is mildly autistic so explaining "no touch" can sometimes be frustrating if i'm pressed for time) to the grocery or out for lunch with his grandpa on saturdays which i luv the kids getting to see their great gp since he's getting older. My hubba hubby also will make late night runs to walmart for supplies, helps me with deliveries cause i'm usually to exhausted to drive since i do the bulk of my work overnight and is over all helpful with being supportive, clean up, he is my new icing maker, advertisement, you name it he's it (except for actually doing work on the cake, not so good at that). Thanks Jeffrey for being awesome!!!

hes the best...

Mine is very sweet and will do just about anything I ask him to. If I were to have to specify what his "job" is I would say doweling. He is the doweling king! icon_biggrin.gif

He's a woodworker by trade so he's very meticulous. I get my cakes pretty level and straight these days but when I was first learning his input was invaluable. It's because I'm married to him that I own my own torpedo level and use it on all my cakes.

He is also amazingly good at coming up with new flavor combinations. I did a shower cake for a friend and it's still the favorite (and theses friends have had a lot of my cakes!) My DH came up with the main flavor combo so he gets the credit.

I'm going to keep him. He's very nice and buys me expensive kitchen toys to play with! icon_biggrin.gif

I don't think I could do this without my DH. He's my support! When I have an order he is the first one to say what can I make for dinner for you? as he knows I'll be busy baking and decorating. He cuts my dowls and some of my bases. He's my structural design expert so I rely on that quite a bit. He gives me advise when I ask for it and even when I don't. He pushes me to do my best.

Best of all, he's now making me my own cake room complete with work table, island with built in turn table, air line for the airbrush, sink and lots of storage for all my tools.

wow, my husband just recently mentioned that he'd like to help me with my cakes. now that i've read all 8 pages of this thread i've got plenty ideas for putting him to work! icon_smile.gif he's always been very supportive and puts up with my messes (i'm an incredibly messy cook, powdered sugar EVERYWHERE and we have a small kitchen). he cuts dowels, gives me his honest opinions, and helps himself to the scraps. he also bought me my KA mixer last christmas! but now i think i'll be delegating some more to him...i can just see him kneading fondant...

My hubby is basically my business partner. He does lots at our shop and does also help with every wedding cake delivery and set up. I didn't realize it until someone else pointed it out, but he and I rarely speak during a wedding cake set up. He knows exactly what to do - I know exactly what to do -- and we rarely have to speak. He knows when to hand me what or what to do in the moment. He is truly amazing!

He is also the greatest PR person ever! On the days he is at the shop, I sell a ton more than when he is not there!!

I also am a control freak, so to keep my sanity, I allow him and my 3 boys to help me out by being my taste testers (as much as I'd like to partake in this fun time with them, I know this is not realstic, so I watch them eat and want a blow by blow on each bite) so this aside from clearing up my messes is all the help my husbands offers in the cake decorating department.

I have to admit I haven't read all 8 pages of this yet, but I just have to chime in with a cheer for my husband. He helps in so many ways and has even nick-named himself "Lumer the Cake Boy"--I have no idea where "Lumer" came from! He helps by cheerfully being the taste tester, making a lot of his own meals, but only when I, the cake Nazi, am finished with the oven. He helps tremendously with delivering the cakes by driving (SLOWLY!!) over really horrible country roads while I stress out at each bump and then carrying the monsters in. He is my biggest fan and is a great advertiser for me because he is so proud of me.

My husband was up until 3am last night helping me make and decorate our 'first' cake. We decided it's always a good thing for a marriage to share something and we decided that caking is it. I love the creative possibilities and he is very interested in the engineering aspect of it all.

Prepare to be jealous.

My husband is a stay at home dad. He not only makes my breakfast, lunch and dinner, he takes care of the kids, cleans the house, does yard work, takes out the trash, does the grocery shopping, changes diapers, gets up in the middle of the night (100%), runs my errands, takes the kids to the zoo/library/etc...

HE ALSO BAKES ALL OF MY CAKES and cleans up the kitchen when I'm done!

Oh... and he's super hot! he he icon_smile.gif

I am so lucky to have a very supportive and helpful DH. He helps with everything but the baking. I had carpal tunnel surgery in March and he had to pipe some cupcakes to look like roses. He had no idea how hard it is to get it right. He did great! I think his strong points are carving, fondant figures and leveling. He loves to help with designs and he's my biggest fan.

This is a great subject!!

Don't worry littlecake, I'm as good as single in a month when my bf moves away to go to school icon_smile.gif

Not that it matters much anyways.. he has his computer games / life and I have my cakes. As much as he pushes me to do more he isn't quite willing to help, hehehe.

I'm jealous of all of you with husbands willing to get dirty... or well clean up the dirt (I would LOVE that!)
