I am very interested in trying a cake contest of some sort. I watch those on the Food Network and think how awesome they are. I have made several cakes and would love to compete with others on my level. A newbie or beginner. I have looked on the net for cake contests and come up with nothing. Anyone else like me interested?? I think it would be great to have a place to find competitions for all of us beginners. I live in Indiana, so if anyone knows of something please let me know. Thanks
maybe you'll find something local to you posted in the "events" section of the forums...
I am also a new cake decorator and very interested in entering some kind of contest! Wouldn't that be fun!
I am also in indiana and have been trying to find contests for awhile. I was hoping with the state fair coming up there might be something but i checked the website and found no mention of a cake competition.
Have you found anything yet?
I have been looking online and the only thing I have found is the Wilton castle contest that ends this month. All other websites show winners from previous contests with no contact information. Does cakecentral hold their own contests?
Maybe CakeCentral could have a "newbie" contest for those of us who don't have enough experience for the other contests but would like to challenge ourselves.
you could do a throwdown against someone on here. dunno if they still do those....there are the official rules on here. just do a search...i'm not sure what all it entails.
Ooh, see a throwdown wouldn't be as anonymous... if I enter a contest with a bunch of other newbies maybe nobody would remember if my cake sucked! LOL!

I live in Indiana also, and the only thing I am aware of, are the county fairs. A friend of ours just won Grand Champion in the "make a cake division" at our county fair, but that is for just cakes - no decorating.
BTW, he also wins a lot of the pie competitions as well. He retired a few years ago and decided that he'd like to try baking some pies and it has just escalated from there. He lets us sample his "wares", and they are truly amazing! I'd love to have his recipes! Maybe he can bake them and I can decorate them!
The only competions for cake decorating that I know of, are for 4-H kids. If I hear of anything else, I'll let you know.
You might want to contact Indydebi. She is the one who knows just about anything you'd ever want to know about cakes, etc., in Indiana.

American Cake Decorating posts contests on their site. Or used to...I haven't checked in a little while..
County fairs are great fun. I just submitted my cakes for our county fair monday. After the judging I went to see how we faired at the fair and guess what of the two cakes I submitted I won in both categories. One first place and one reserve grand champion.
The competition bug has bit and bit HARD!!! I love it
Jab,
I don't know how you would go about finding the information to enter, but I do know that the Indiana State Fair does have cake decoration as well as many other food items that you can enter. I was visiting family there last August and walked through the room that held them all.. quite something to see.
Any kind of contest or throwdown for newbies would be cool.... but I'm with Tashablueyes on that anonymous tip otherwise it might become the best of the worst or something. LOL!
I have seen throwdowns on the website but have had no luck finding rules on how to go about it. If anyone knows, lets do it!!!
I'm with the beginers. I'd think it would be really cool to have some kind of common theme and see what we can do. Sometimes just comparing your work to others on your level helps you learn, yeah?
If anyone finds anything for online submission, let me know

I did some research on the Arizona State Fair and they have a large selection of cake competitions and cake decorating competitions both edible and fake.
Here is the link to the info booklet for anyone that happens to be from AZ: http://www.azstatefair.com/Common/Files/Competitive_culinary.pdf
I would love to be part of a newbie competition! I always seem to do my best when I actually have to bake for a cause rather than for "no reason"
I am definitely in for a competition or throw down!
I have a hard time just baking to bake because my trunk doesnt need anymore junk in it! hee hee SO I too need a reason to bake. That is primarily why my piping is so horrid not enough practice but I just feel like I am wasting it to make a batch of RI or BC just to practice piping. I suppose I could just make something and then give it to the neighbors.
I live in s rural area and we dont have much hope for competition unless it is at the fair but I would love to enter one online if possible. Anyone have any ideas where we can do that? I tried the American Cake decorator but everything I had done had fondant and or airbrush and they wanted BC only.
Iâve seen mention of contest on here before and the files for them in the gallery, but not sure how they went about them. Havenât seen one posted since I joined. I know for a throw down both constants submit a picture of their cakes to a third party by a certain date and time and then that person post both pictures and sets up a poll to vote. Could we do something like that for a cake contest? Just have everyone agree on some rules and have them all send their pictures to one person and have that person post all the pictures at once. Let everyone vote and then declare a winner. I do think that there should be two categories though one for fondant and one for butter cream. It would be easier for everyone if there was a set theme to work with. Any suggestions? If this sounds like a plan to anyone Iâd be willing to collect and post the pictures. (hopefully Iâm not stepping on anyoneâs toes, or not following the rules here. If I am please let me know)

I am so in for this:
And I do agree that there should be BC and Fondant separately. And as far as themes would it just be as simple as Birthday cake or retirement cake? Or would it be somethiing like flowers or cartoon characters???
So many questions, I want answers! lol
