I knew when I woke up this morning today was not going to be a good day... I have all these cakes to get out and nothing is going right.. NOTHING... icon_cry.gif My chocolate bc is grainy... my ac doesn't seem to be working properly and my last cake I finished looks like a dog decorated it... On top of all this.. I get a bad phone call.. my cousin was rushed to the hospital last night... she had been sick apparently.. they thought she had a stomach flu (while she was at home) .. Something happened.. don't know what yet but it sent her DH into a frenzy and they got her to the hospital. She's on life support... apparently a tick has bitten her and all of her organs are shutting down. icon_sad.gif Now what do I do... I have orders.. my family says to wait here at the house but what if she passes? WHAT DO I DO??? Besides crying I don't know what to do or what NOT to do. These two are due tomorrow. No they aren't paid but they are for my DS's sports banquet. But I do have a huge order due on Saturday that IS paid.. and I can't get out of that one.

HELP ME!!! What do I do??? Stop? Drive 100 miles to Louisville where my cousin is? I don't even know if I should drive or not, I really think my BP is up.

I'm sorry... but it was either here or scream at the top of my lungs

ok first thing take a deep breath and calm yourself down. You cant be driving upset. you should wait to hear from your family to see whats going on. There is n othing you can do where you are or if you were there. Keep making your cakes try to take your mind off of whats going on. I know thats hard but you need to do it for your customers. Get done what you can just in case you need to leave.

((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))) Sometimes you have to put your family first. Cakes can wait. If you stay.. and she passes.. will you be okay with it? I will keep your family in my thoughts Christi. ((((((HUGS))))))

Could you possibly scale back on the decoration and just call it a day? Especially for the banquet since it's not a paid cake.

Oh, how horrible! If I was closer I'd do my best to come help you. I completely understand the dilemma between responsibility. It's not easy.

If your cousin is expected not to pull through, then I would definitely try and either reassign the cakes or go ahead and cancel. But if the doctors think she'll be fine once the meds are working, then I'd just hold off until you get the last one done.

I pray that she get's better and you make the decision that is right for you.

Ok.. I on my "lunch break " now and I put a call into my mom. Apparently they left to go to Louisville... Since she was supposed to pick them up from school and keep them tonight so I could finish.. I will be home.. Nobody around to pick the kids up sooo...I will just hurry up and wait for a phone call. I think if I just take a little break and gather my senses (SORRY guys to have bothered you all with this) I will have a clearer head.. I'll speed up my pace and just hope for the best!

Thank you all for your support icon_smile.gif I do appreciate ALL of it!!!

Christi, I don't have an advice for you, just wanted to say - hang in there - and I hope your cousin gets better real soon.

As far as cakes, I know you will be OK. ((((HUGS))))

Christi,
My thoughts and prayers are with you. I don't know what to tell you. I think ultimately it's got to be whatever's in your heart. It's a hard decision.

Bless your heart. First we need you to take a deep breath, so you can calm down. Now evaluate your situation: the donated cakes are great for the banquet organizers, but I am pretty sure they would understand why you can't do them. I think you said they are already baked, tell them you have them baked but someone else will need to ice them. As for the one that is paid I would get it decorated and make arrangements for this person to pick it up, even if you they have to pick it up today, its better than nothing. Good Luck I pray that she is ok!!!

I don't have any cakes to do until Saturday, but I'm like you I don't know what to do. Just try to stay calm. Since your giong to have to stay home, just try to work on the cakes, ease your mind a little (I know its hard). ((((((((HUG))))))))

All I can add is this: You need to keep working to keep your mind occupied, it's hard yes, but it's better then sitting and chewing the fingernails down to the bone worrying. If the situation gets worse and you have to go to the hospital obviously all clients should understand. You and your family are in our prayers. Take a deep breath and relax. Doctors have become miracle workers better then we can ever think of sometimes. Keep us posted....HUGS!!

. . . sorry to hear of your struggles . . . if you are anything like me, since you have to stay home anyway - I would have to try to keep myself busy doing the cakes . . . help to pass the time . . . as far a your cousin goes, my thoughts and prayers are all I can offer . . . lifting her up in prayer . . . and asking that God be very close to all of your family at this difficult time . . . ((big hugs))

You definately need to sit and take a deep breath and relax, we all have our bad days and sometimes more than usual things go horrible and the time when we need it to go well. you should definately wait for a call from your family you shouldnt be driving like that and as far as the cakes they will fall into place, god willing your cousin will be fine.

I am so sorry for all you and your family are going thru right now. Follow your heart & do what you need to do for you. This is the decorators nightmare come true, but it is not the end of the world. A cake is a cake & Walmart has plenty of them if you cannot take care of your customers at this time. They will understand. God bless you & I pray that your cousin will be back to her good health very soon.

I try to keep in mind that all things tend to work out if we can only camly wait for the purpose and path to become apparent! I had 2 similar situations over the Christmas Holiday. I decided that if the person was alert enough to be aware of my presence that I would drop everything and go, but if they were unconsious and unresponsive that I would wait for a call to say they regained consciousness or near the end. Seems harsh in some ways, but it was important to me and I asume the ill person that I help provide support when they were awake. Such personal choices to make. So I saved the precious minutes for the time they were needed most. My prayers include you today.

sending you healing and supportive energy, and the hope that your cousin gets better. And you know that you can count on us here to listen, if you need to talk. I know that when I had to have surgery several years ago, some friends online who knew how hard it was going to be for me, stayed up all night with me, keeping me company, until it was time to leave for the hospital. I'm sure that there will be someone here, anytime you need us. Don't ever feel that you can't let us know that you need us.

hugs, and I hope things go well, for you and your cousin.

(and thanks for the heads' up on the ticks... I didn't know that could happen, either, and we've been finding them left and right this year! I've already picked two off of me in the last two weeks... not embedded, but just the fact that they were there is scary enough.)

Oh, Christi - I'm sorry! Think positive thoughts - our prayers are with you..

Your clients will certainly understand if you can't finish their order... In the big picture, it's just a cake, and their event will go on... trust me!

On the other hand, it's nice you have something to keep you occupied while you're waiting on news...

Hi there Christi,

I am so sorry you are going through this! You are so strong being able to finish up your cakes while dealing with such a tough situation. Do what you can, but take care of yourself and family first. It sounds like at this point it is just a waiting game, so it may be better for you to just keep doing what you are doing-working while awaiting phone calls.

Good luck sweetie-we are all thinking of you!!!!

Just saw this note...I'm so sorry! That is really really scary. I hate ticks as it is but that...wow. Its sooo hard to concentrate on your work when you have such terrible things on your mind, I know. I'm glad you've been sticking with it and working through your cakes. I'm anxious to hear the updates on your cousin. Will pray she makes it through somehow. Was it an allergic reaction, or Lyme disease, or some blood borne disease? That's crazy.

Anyway your cakes probably look alot better than you think they do....don't worry about how they look, just worry about getting what you can done and taking one step at a time.

*hugs*
