I too just found this thread now. Too funny! I can't wait to see your finished product - I hope it's over the top!
This story is sooo funny! Can't wait for the updates. I had a mean thought - call the bakery where she ordered the cake from and cancel the order! HAHA! Just kidding - I really wouldn't be that mean! Can't wait to see your cake!! Good luck!
Oh, heck, I can't wait to hear whether or not you are going to charge the extra fees for exclusivity, and whether she is willing to pay them or not!
Definitely keep us posted!
Theresa
playingwithsugar, you said that you weren't about to go through all of the pages, but if you had, like the rest of everyone on the thread you would know the whole story and know that she isn't even doing the cake for the woman and a whole lot of other issues in this situation. So, if you want to know what's really going on, you might want to read the whole thread. It's an awsome and very interesting story
hcouso -
Gee, don't you think those remarks would serve better as a PM, instead of going so far out of your way to embarrass me like this?
It is this type of juvenile behavior you have displayed which makes this forum a far less the amicable place it used to be.

I think you should read her post again and offer hcouso an apology for calling her immature, when she was being friendly and informing you that you were missing a good story. She was going far out of her way to be friendly and helpful.

For those who do not wish to search for the post, it is on page 5 - http://forum.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopicp-5918621-.html#5918621
There is more to the story further on into this thread.
hcouso, you were polite when informing, and I do the same thing myself.
This is exactly why I wanted a ticker I lost count ...i feel like my 4 year old...is it time for the party yet? Is it time for the party yet? Ha ah aha h
This is killing me...when did she say the party was again?
Wouldn't it be fun to pool our $ and pay the crazy lady's "bakery" to close down for the day do to a "family" emergency and not be able to do the ex alted ones cake ?
wow. So I just read ALL the messages on this post. This lady sounds like something off a reality tv show. I wonder how her daughter feels about her mom being like that to her aunt. I really hope your cake comes out awsome cakediva. Good luck to ya! Keep us updated!
Isn't the party today? Huh? Please?
I can't wait.
Oooh!!! I can't wait either!
Ok, we just got home......here is a pic of the cake. They changed the design and decided to go a bit smaller because she wanted a poker themed cake for next weekend, etc.....
So I deliver and really don't have too much to set up since it isn't tiered, etc...... but she added 5 dozen cake truffles to the order (they are like crack in my neighborhood ). SIL is not there yet but my friend filled me in on all the drama that woman has caused. NIGHTMARE! She is apparently on the war path to make her party the best......and she still has no clue that the family knows what happened with me so she is still making snide comments about the cake. 'Her cake is insane, her cake will be the best....blah, blah, blah.'
So I hang around helping my friend out. At least 2 hours after the party starts, SIL and family shows up, totally acts like she owns the place, she is late because she has wayyyy too busy of a life, yada, yada, yada. She stops to talk to someone at the front door and her daughter continues in the house and I swear, she screamed, "Mom!!!! I thought you were keeping our party theme a secret".
SIL goes flying in and jaw just drops when she sees the decorations and, of course, the cake. Well, it seems in all her planning she never asked my friend what the theme was. It was 'Hollywood' and my friend went to town decorating, house looked great, disco ball - the whole works. Very cool - totally on a budget and most importantly, everyone was having a flipping fabulous time. Well apparently this was the great design SIL had planned and she was LIVID. She heads to the bar and we all try to stop laughing!
So, I know you are all waiting to hear about the cake. She comes over and looks at it....and then walks away. Doesn't say one word. Her daughter, on the other hand, is gushing...... ( I know it wasn't all that but this girl is making a big fuss over it). So the evening progresses and eventually we end up standing near each other. Now I wasn't going to start anything with her, mainly because I just didn't want to do anything to take away from birthday girl.
Well this snotty-a$$ b-word sidles up to me and says "Well, who are you?" (That apparently qualifies as a greeting in her world) I tell her I am so & so's friend. She proceeds to start babbling about some random stuff - awards and such that her daughter has won (seriously!!) and how she is planning a party for the following weekend. At this point, I am having trouble keeping a straight face. I don't know if I can keep it together, ya know?
So, my friend walks in hollers out that its time to cut the cake...we all sort of move towards the kitchen and SIL is still standing beside me. They make a big fuss and then cut the cake and start handing it out. Well, my friend has already told me not to help cut because she is sure SIL will sink her own ship at some point and wants me to be there to see it.
Sure enough, she disdainfully takes a piece of cake, leans over to our little group and comments about how small the cake is. Everyone starts eating it and the cake truffles and they are all crazy for it . I mean these people love cake and you all KNOW I made this one the best, tastied, most moist cake I have ever made. Torted, fruit & cream filling, simple syrup....the works! And the cake truffles are an addiction around here so they are almost fighting over them (not kidding, my friend had to hide them when I first arrived and 10 minutes after we put them out, there were only 2 left).
I just hung back and watched....and then I couldn't resist!! I walked over and conversationally asked her how she liked the cake. She just sort of wrinkled her nose and said "It's alright...a little sweet for my taste". I tell her "I'm sorry to hear that" and then wait a second and say "I try to make them so the flavors balance each other". Dead silence.... she says "You made the cake?". "Well, yes", I tell her. Just then, one of the uncles comes over along with friends husband (who is a bit tipsy at this point and clearly ready to give his sister hell)..... He proceeds to start telling her she she should have me make the cake and do cakeballs too, blah, blah, blah. Then he totally blows it and says "Oh that's right, you already asked her too!!!!"
I could have died. We had all agreed not to come out and tell her that I knew who she was, etc. I am not kidding, the blood drained from the womans face and she sputtered.....I don't know what she sputtered but she was so embarassed and then blushed practically to her ears! I smack friends husband on the shoulder and proceed to tell him what a butthead he was, meanwhile, she took off. She literally left the party. She left her husband and kids and got in the car and TOOK OFF!!
So I am dying because she is a total nutcase but I would not have tried to humiliate her in front of everyone, they are calling her on the cellphone & everything. It is ridiculous....eventually she answers and says she saw they were out of ice & she ran to the store to pick up some more. About 30 minutes later she walks in (with no ice at all, mind you) and proceeds to plant herself in the far corner, as far away from me as possible and started texting or doing something with her phone. She stayed like that for the rest of the party and then left a little bit later.
I felt bad for her so I just stayed out of her area and her line of sight. Wasn't sure if she would have confronted me or what but since I was in someone else's house, I was on my good behavior, lol.
So that is it! That is the final chapter of "How the spoons turns". (Was that what we were calling it??)
Sorry this was so long but I figured you all wanted the juicy details. I will have to come and post after HER party next weekend. Lord only knows what lengths this woman will go to....
After her bad behavior she so totally deserved to be CALLED OUT like that. She deserved every single little bit of humiliation at that party..... she piled her plate high.
Don't feel sorry for her. Reality just did slap her upside the head and it hurt. Hurt her pride. Let's hope she's a humbler person after this experience.
I love the cake! I would never have thought I'd like a black bow, but it looks great and the black is so black, I know that's not easy! My 13 yo dd just saw it and said it's "beastly cool" which apparently means really cool. That's quite a compliment!
Your cake is Awsome!! That has GOT to be the best (potential) customer story/encounter ever! That was also incredibly smooth of you when you casualy said, "I try to make them so the flavors balance each other".
Very well done. Thank you for sharing all of this with us.
Heather

I know that felt good!!! I am betting that she will have someone call you to make her a fabulous cake.... This is too funny
That couldn't have gone any better! I'm with Chutzpah, she deserved the bed she made.
