Who knows.. but I cannot for the life of me see how to make it... looks like the box is wrapped.. but I am not good at measuring stuff like that.. and it would have to be a stiff paper also... I bet they are produced somewhere...

I doubt they made it.. if anything they might have sliced down the two corners, but I bet the box came wrapped like that. I know I have seen pretty boxes similar but I don't think they had a flap-down side.

I think it looks like a decorative gift box, not 'made for' cake.. I've seen similar at the Paper Factory outlet store near me.... I'm looking for a picture/website now....

The ones I've seen you could get individually and were really heavy duty cardboard gift boxes... I've often thought about trying to use them for cakes.

Hmm.. well they could work if they were tall enough.. of course these could just be used for a standard 2 layer cake and not the stacked...

I know I've run across these kind before when I was on Google. Seems like you had to buy them from the UK. For the life of me I can't find them now. They are already made like this and were expensive so I didn't bother keeping the website.

Ya, I've seen those kind of boxes all over. Target, party warehouses, Hobby Lobby, Michaels. I guess you could just cut down two of the sides and secure with the top.

I have that exact same box so maybe she just cut down the sides so she could slide the cake in it. Thats why she put that piece of ribbon under the cake board so they could pull the cake out of the box.

I use Nashville Wraps all the time and they are a great company to order from and very quick on shipping. Actually I just got a box from them this week. They usually ship the same day you place your order.

Christi--Just a thought about these boxes. If you don't want to buy a fancy box to cut down you could buy a regular box and use a certain wrapping paper that just came out. I received a free sample roll of it at Hallmark when I bought some cards. It's wrapping paper that actually sticks to the box, kind of like a giant sticker. They have some pretty designs to choose from too. I can't wait to do this and add a pretty bow around the box.

I concur, those are the boxes they sell at Michaels. What a great Idea to package an over sized cupcake!

Cut down the sides of the box carefully and glue the little ribbon onto the cake board and the top will hold everything closed.

This is the same set up that Bakery Craft has for the oversized wedding boxes.

I haven't bought from them in a while, but I have cut moving boxes like that, I have gotten a moving box to fit my wedding cakes, cut down the front of the box, slid my wedding cake in the box and then used bright Masking tape to close it, I like the pink and orange, lol

then I drape plastic wrap over the top to seal my box.

wonder what the markup would be if I did this as my packaging? Would it be too expensive to do for small stacked cakes...like say 7 and 4 inch stackedd cakes?

The only thing I'd wonder though is if they are food safe? My guess is no.. unless you were to line the box with something.. I'd think it'd be too much work to do for everyday stuff and if you do.. charge TONS.

I use decorative boxes for my bite size desserts ordered. They are not food safe and you need to line with a food safe wrap. There is a food safe grade plastic paper that looks exactly like tissue paper (just plastic) that I use to line all of my desserts boxes. It will raise the price of your cakes quite a bit if you do this because you will have to buy so many of them for your orders and then trying to find the sizes that you need. I have to go to store to store sometimes to find them. I buy as many on clearance as they have but this is usually after Christmas and then I have to store them till the next season. It's not hard to find cute ones, but cute ones under $5 a pop is difficult to do. The food grade paper I can always find at the dollar store around Christmas with snow flakes and the season prints. I have to order some plain ones because of the different seasons and am trying to find some good prices on them currently.

Here's another idea. I have a number of hs students always looking for a little extra summer money, around me. I would put them to use by having them do the cutting and covering and just buy good quality plain boxes. I would do it at my location so I could monitor the work being done.
