I love the way airbrushed cakes look. It looks really easy. I was just wondering how many of you airbrush your cakes. I am thinking about buying the products to start.
Thanks,
Crystal

I have tried one and it is fun, but it's not as easy as it looks. I wish they weren't so expensive!

I bought a used airbrush set up from eBay.. I really love it and wish I could spend more time doing it... I'm no where close to being good at it that's for sure lol .. it does take a lot of practice that much I do know .. maybe this winter, when I have to stay inside more, I'll have some time to practice with it more ..

i got mine a few yrs ago as a gift from my mom icon_biggrin.gif i love it so much i would never get rid of it. but i havent gotten good enough yet to do small details but i will some day. the only thing is you have to clean btween each color or it bleeds the first color, probably rather obvious but i was surprised once with black rather than flesh (yugioh)it was clean air until i added the flesh color. but i'm still learning and to cover large areas its a life saver (especially not having to make so much of any one color just white and then airbrush. thumbs_up.gif

I love to airbrush...I am a licensed nail tech. Am thinking about converting it over because I no longer use it for nails. Been sitting in my closet for over two years collecting dust. I brought some orange airbrush color from a cake supply store that was discounted to practice but haven't had time to try it out.

The secret to airbrushing is not using heavy pressure. You have to practice to get that light pressure. Too much pressure will make it spray out in a very heavy, runny pattern.

Until you get the right touch, cover your cake, spray on the side of your hand and continue to the cake with that touch. Hope I explained it so that you understand what I'm trying to say. My directions leave alot to be desired lol.

I also love the airbrush effect. I would like to buy one too but I agree with Sugar that they are expensive. Maybe I'll wait until I'm more experienced. icon_wink.gif

I have an Airbrush, & love it! but You do have to Practice and a Lot. I take Coloring book pages and tape them to a cake board and try basicly to Stay in the Lines, then To do the Really Nice Outline you have to get much closer to the page. You can also take Butter cream frosting and spread it onto a piece of Cardboard and practice on that too. but I have used it to color my cakes & then to put a design on it . My Hello Kitty cake was airbrushed and then I drew her on and filled in with buttercream.

~Hope this makes sense and Helps

You could also call around to Local Bakery's and see if they offer any classes on airbrushing. Our Wilton Instructor did an air brushing class and we all learned a Great deal from it. Everyone got to play with the airbrush and and some decided it wasnt for them, But of Course,, I had to have one.. hahaha. =0)

~Sweet~ =0)~
