So I have finally decided to ask if anyone knows why dragees are prohibited for sale and use in California. As far as I know, they are permitted in all other states. Anyone have any insight?

Most of the metallic dragees have trace amounts of metal-not edible. California opted to act on the over-protective side.

Yeah, they were pulled form the markets some 15 yrs ago when some politician was sent to the store by wifey and he read the label; trace amounts of metal - NOT edible. Then he proceeded to push thru laws to ban the sale of them icon_sad.gif
Heavy metals are not passed thru the body. They accumulate forever so the more of those you eat the more you will get sick etc.

You would have to eat an incredible amount of dragees to get sick. I have been eating them since I was a little girl & I am 70 now & still going strong. It is amazing how many items we see that have a label on them saying"known in the State of California to cause Cancer", we have a good laugh every time & I am talking about items like artificial christmas trees to plastic tables, it is fascinating!

LOL I thought my family was the only one. But we figure we're safe using them in Iowa b/c they only cause cancer in CA icon_lol.gif

This is a good article on the concerns and history in California:

peanut123, that is a good article, seems to me that some people don't have enough to do, too much time on their hands so they think up all this nonsense. It cracks me up. America would be a better place if everyone wasn't so 'Sue Happy'.

Clearly we need to start illegally selling dragees out of a car trunk in California icon_wink.gif

I'm telling you - there's a fortune to be made here!
