One of our local restaurants sells the Watkins flavorings. Has anyone used them and are they good?

I've always bought my flavorings from Penzeys or the grocery store.

Thoughts?

I get Watkins vanilla, lemon, and almond at Walmard, and I love them.

The flavor is good, and doesn't seem to need as much as the other brands.

They are actually a few websites for them and they will ship.
Just google Watkins products. My grandmother
always used Watkins products and their flavorings are awesome.
I've bought quite a few from them and they're all good.

Watkins is great stuff. its all natural flavors, unless it says otherwise. you tend to need less of it to get your flavors. they've been around for a loooooong time, you can research them on the web to find out more about them.
i went to Watkins home party years ago, and i was very impressed with their herbs and spices as well. Although I don't use their flavorings since I go through it so quickly and in large quantities, but they are very good quality products.

I love the lemon flavoring, but I find the vanilla tastes weird if used in my icing. I prefer another brand for that use.

I've used Watkins before and it's been fine for me, just as good as any other that I've used.

It's all I use. I think it gives your cakes a different flavor. The lemon is really intense ,you only need a little. I love the watkins vanilla too.

I personally don't care for the Watkins but Walmart does carry them. You just have to look hard for them. I'm so excited that a friend of mine is bringing me Mexican Vanilla next week!!

I have always used Watkins products to "doctor" my cakes. People are always telling me how good the cakes are and they "think" they are from scratch. Also use other flavorings in my buttercream. Really makes a difference. I finally decided to become a dealer in order to purchase my product wholesale because it is not cheap! If you need more info. just ask. I'll be happy to share.

I love Watkins!!!! I just bought some of their extracts...Almond, Caramel, Chocolate, Hazelnut, Peach, Peanut Butter, Vanilla Nut, Mango, Pineapple, Lemon, Pure Vanilla, Rum, Strawberry, etc., They are the Best!!!!

In regard to the mexican vanilla...just a note of caution, Some manufacturers of mexican vanilla add coumarin; the US FDA has banned coumarin b/c it can cause liver and kidney damage. icon_surprised.gif

Newlywedws, here is a link to the US Food and Drug Administration list of Mexican Vanilla brands to watch for coumarin:

This list was updated 3/19/08.

Danncy Pure Vanilla Extract is on the alert list. I see lots of people bring this brand back from Mexico.

Thank you for that link, as I'm sure it might help those who do use mexican vanilla...I have no intention of EVER using mexican vanilla.

I use Watkins flavorings exclusively--my mom is a distributor in Michigan. You don't have to use as much, the quality is great and they have a full line of 'out of the ordinary" flavors as well. I also love their spices & seasonings
