hey everyone - I am trying to get read for a wedding show at the end of the month and I am working on #5 of my 9 display cakes. The cake that I am currently doing is a three tier with a very small and tight renassiance (I know that is not spelled right) on the sides (all those little curly's) and instead of a border around the top and bottoms I am going to do icing roses. My dilemma - I can't decide what color to do the flowers and leaves in. On my other cakes: One has red and white flowers; one has a deep red almost burgandy and a pale yellow flowers; and then I also have one with purple flowers. I am trying to have a variety of things for people to see but can't seem to decide on color or shades. Give me some feedback please about good colors and shades. like a bold flower with like a christmas green leaf or something a little softer with a sage type color leaf. thanks all

Okay, I don't do wedding cakes, but I would be your target market. Right now, it seems that white on white is still "in" (thank God b/c I love that style). So I would do your roses (or at least one of your dummy cakes) with white roses or maybe ivory, something so pale that it almost looks white but maybe has a hint of brown or yellow, just a tiny bit. and then maybe some super pale leaves, like just barely green. I'm neither in your target market or a wedding cake maker: however, a white on white cake would be good- ribbons and bows?. White with pastel pink- maybe several shades of pale pinks- flowers and pale green leaves. A pale colored cake- green or blue- with white decoration-scallops, ferns etc. Think Wedgewood, only a very, very soft color for the cake. An all ivory cake with criss cross mat indentations and ivory pearls. Finally, something really wild like a tropical sunset ot tye dye fondant.

Love your poodle pic. Is it yours or did you get those from somewhere? I had pictures take of my mini before she died (about a year before) but I need to order them, they are just so darn expensive, but they came out GORGEOUS!

Anyway, love the photo.

I agree with Horselady. White on white would be nice. You already have some displays with color. The white on white can be traditional or contemporary, which will appeal to a wide audience of people.

If you want some variety, why don't you pipe daisies to put on the border of the cake? I've seen some very pretty cakes with daisies lately.

If you want to stick with the roses, though, I would pipe some of the roses that are deep red with orange tips. I think they're just beautiful and you could easily get the look by spatula striping your piping bag. You could even dry brush on a little bit of super gold dust on the tips.

My first thought was barely there pink. Just a subtle shade difference from white and have that be the ONLY color - with white leaves.

White on white is nice, especially if you're showing off technique. Sometimes colors have a way of masking what you're really good at.
