"Ok so the bride wanted Canary yellow and Chocolate brown butter cream flowers over white American butter cream. When you cut this cake the inside was HOT PINK! I kid not. My delivery guy comes back from dropping the cake off and announces it was a perfect match. I still LOL about this cake.

WOW cakespirations!  I just don't think I could do a cake like this. I just would have to say no.

Well now that I have seen a few of my hero's put up their bad work I think I will jump in. This cake was for my 87 year old grandfather. His birthday coincides with my dads birthday so I thought I'd make two car cakes for the first time. The problem was I didn't realize the A/C was set at 76 which means it got to 79 before turning on!!! YIKES meanwhile I'm thinking I'm going through some midlife crisis cause I'm so hot. Doesn't dawn on me to check the A/C so the car melted and looks about 87 years old. The other car melted a bit but hadn't been out as long so I had to sacrifice one of the cakes. I picked my grandfathers since it was a station wagon and not something I'd get business off of anyhow. SO its HORRIBLE.

The wood looks like bacon and I decided to try carving out the windows and put seats in that way. BAD IDEA. So there is frosting in the windows and gelatin sheets wrinkled over that that you can't see.

Here is my first and last attempt at a topsy turvy cake! With first time MMF. This was about 4 years ago.

Here is another reason to hate Wilton fondant. This was my first wilton class fondant cake. Also first attempt with RKT and had no idea what I was doing. Tried molding them his arms while still hot. They fell off.

Here is one I did a few years ago...Bad really bad. The fondant sagged and the moisture from the fondant covered the whole board which was fabric that was wood. I didn't put the foil on it the customer did. I told them I didn't want to do it in BC but they insisted. I carved the cake and didn't know about freezing at that time and so every time I tried to crumb coat it just tore. I last minute tried to put on the fondant but it still sagged due to the soft cake.

AI have just recently started logging back into CC and haven't posted any new cake pics in a very long time, but I saw this thread and had to contribute. This was my very first attempt at a Topsy Turvy cake. I made it for the daughter of a good friend of mine many years ago.. Her only requirements were, that it had to be topsy turvy and it had to be covered in candy. It didn't have as much candy on it when I delivered it, so we added more until she was satisfied. I cringe and my eye still twitches whenever I look at this picture. LOL

AI dunno. It looks to me like it met the stated specifications. If that's your worst, well, it's better than some people's best.

Smittyditty- I have a house full of people that would love the bacon-mobile!

Do a lot of people struggle with topsy turvy?   Noticing a theme.

Would like to add - made a cake that looked like a present box for my hubby's sisters birthday on Friday, all was going well - we loaded up the car we were taking for the trip (my hubbys boss leant us his BMW for the weekend as a surprise :king:) baby in, cake on floor in back seat. We head off, heaters turned on a little, get almost all the way there and I think - hmmm better check on the cake, look behind the seat to find that there is a heater vent in there and it is blowing right onto the cake. Lol stupid beamer had melted the fondant and it was sliding down the cake, to make it worse after freaking out about it then accepting that it would just have to do (I had hollowed out the cake and put the present in there) I sat it at my feet for the rest of the trip. As we went through a roundabout hubby took it a little bit fast for the cake and it slid right ino the side of my shoe. lol luckily we all had a laugh and the effort was appreciated. Definitely should have just taken our old car lol.

Luckylibra- I love the juxtaposition and you can really see the improvement!  I should put some of my son`s side by side...still looking for a photo of the hideous first .5 cake I made.    ...and I kinda like the bowling cake, the pins are cute!  :)

Yes, Manicgeisha...the Eiffel tower was the attempt to make amends for the rest lol. Amazing what a difference supports and cake boards make lol guess that is how we learn. I would love to see other post one of their worst and a more recent so see the contrast.. I thought it was fun.

Here is my side by side.   Left cake, the WORST cake.  Right cake, much better cake (still not my favourite design) but it all held up and even went over numerous mountains.    My worst cake doesn't even get excuses like that, LOL.   Ok, my old place was hot house humid.

I love the improvement you can see on yours Manicgeisha. That you had two cakes so similar to compare is awesome. The leveling on the second one shows great improvement, such smooth lines now. Thanks for sharing

Ahh thanks!     That first Rapunzel cake has bugged me for years, when my friend's daughter wanted a Rapunzel cake I jumped at the chance even though the design ideas weren't quite right.   I think I just don't like the their size difference or their squat appearance.  There are at least design elements I still like from my first wreck-y Rapunzel cake.  The painted animals were adorable!

The Santa I made for Christmas. I realized I needed to make a cake for Christmas and I had to hurry so the details are really bad .... i ended up doing it like the night before. I was scared to cover the dome in fondant so I mixed raspberry jam with store bought icing.... I made the arms and legs WAYYYYYY to big. and the icing melted. My dad actually started laughing when the head rolled off (to heavy and so not enough support). He said "that's what happens when you drink and sled" lol it was actually funny and I don't mind laughing at my self lol*

HAHAHAA!!! The Santa is killing me!! LOLOL!!!! The song should be "Santa got run over by a reindeer!"

I WISH I had taken pictures of my worst cakes. I never have. I think because I want to pretend they never happened. LOL! I have one where all the buttercream fell off the sides because it was too hot and humid here. Another that a friend wanted for a baby shower. She wanted it to look like a giant block with a fondant bear on top. The bear was the only thing that looked cute. The block was a mess!

Your Santa is awesome! LOL!

This is my worst cake ever my friend asked me to bake a cake for her mom anniversary. But they did not like buttercreme or fondant so I made an icing using meringue powder. I could not make the icing smooth, and this icing is shiny. I really did not have much decorating experience but this is really the ugliest cake design I have ever made
