I have been asked to make a traditional dominican cake for a wedding. It will essentially be the grooom's cake, as he is dominican. I have been given a recipe by the couple, but I was wondering if anyone has made this cake before or would have any tips for me. Also if you have a tried and true recipe for this cake would you be willing to share. It is the moist yellow cake, with a fruit filling and a meringue frosting. Thanks
Why don't you post the recipe and maybe I can compare it to mine? Its not from Dominican but it is from Puerto Rico. Maybe they are similar and I could tell you how it would be....
I am guessing this is a tried and true one, based on the domain name. Good luck.

This is cool, I didn't even think about it. I have a sponsor child that is Dominican, and if he ever comes to the states, I can make it
Gina.. that is exactly the recipe that I was given. Maria.. could you check out that link and let me know what you think?

Sounds jummy!!!! It is different from Puerto Rican cake though . I am going to check in the Spanish forum to see if anyone there has done it... It is asking for WHEAT flour??? Mmm, the cake looks yellow and wheat flour is a light brown color..
I am going to check it out and get back to you...
But this recipe I got to try....
I saw that too about the "wheat" flour.. but I kind of thought it was regular flour.. as that is actually made from wheat also, and the color of the cake is not dark.

Okay, I checked the link to how to make this cake and the flour is white, so it has to be all purpose flour...
I have recipes from Puerto Rico where they also poured pineapple juice in the mix, but I have never seen it where they pour the filling on the bottom of the pan. Sounds really good though... I just have to try it...
But please wait till I get a reply from my spanish friends here at I will get back to you with more feedback...
Here is another I found. it says it is the "Dominican National Cake." I want a national cake!!!!!!!!

Well, sorry, so far I haven't got much to tell you.... You are going to have to do a trial cake and see how it goes...
I do hear that it is moist and delicious.... Make sure that you use Cake Flour and non other... otherwise, it won't come out right...
Maria... thank you for that tip.. I would have used regular flour. I will let you know how it comes out. I am going to make it Sunday or Monday.
