Well,
It wasn't as major as some of the other cake disasters I have seen in this forum, but it was my first cake disaster. I was making my cakes for my final tiered cake for Wilton Course 3. I had finished the two 6" rounds and took them out of the oven. I have a big dog who loves cake so I have to set them up on our bar to keep them out of her reach. Well, I was putting the pan on the cooling rack and bumped the rack and it went sliding over the edge of the bar. You guessed it, one of the 6" rounds hit the floor, picture attached. Luckily DH thought ahead and suggested I buy an extra box of cake mix in case we needed it so I had the mix there to finish the cake, but I just wanted to share my disaster story. I have also attached a picture of the finished cake.

Great job on the final cake.
What sucks even more is when you made the cake from scratch.
I disagree nglez09...a ruined cake is a ruined cake!
Bradymom, your cake turned out beautifully...just proves a back-up plan is always a good idea! Janice
I agree with you, veejaytx, anything that you put that much time and effort into, especially when you are still in the learning phase, is so very discouraging. Whether the cake is box or scratch has no bearing on how upsetting an accident like that can be.
Bradymom6, your cake really does look great. I bet others wish their first stacked cake came out as well. A triumphant debut!

I see that was a chocolate cake, I hope that your dog is OK.
As you know chocolate is very toxic to dogs! Maybe a quick call to the vet is in order..?
sorry for the double post, I get an error message and when I quote the poster and add my message it goes through, this is like the first time both post went through..
and as far as having a cake disaster with a scratch cake or box cake!! ..it doesn't make a difference...with a scatch cake the diff is you have to measure the flour and sugar and add...they both take eggs, oil and water..duh...
it's the hand and heart of the baker that makes a cake yummy, no matter what it's humble beginnings are!

Lets keep all the comments in a nice tone, please.
We all have our opinions regarding scratch and cake mixes and should respect how we all feel about them.
I deleted the post by nglez09.
Please continue to be considerate to each other. We all have different views and experiences.
Thank you.
Bradymom6 - what a gorgeous cake for your final!
Back in November I was flipping a 14" Italian Cream onto the cooling rack, and I flipped it right onto the floor. Completely unsalvageable. I almost cried!!
Sorry, folks. I also had to delete the post by tmriga toward nglez09. If you have any disagreements or feel strongly about something towards what another poster said, please don't post them here because it could spark more controversy and get too heated and hurt feelings.
You can use the prviate messaging to discuss further issues but again, please lets keep it as nice as possible.
Thank you again.
The information that I've posted has always been backed up by credible sources; perhaps they are the ones who have done the misinforming (although I believe not so).
Sometimes it's better to give advice based on your own experience rather than "credible sources". You can never be sure how accurate information is unless you've lived it.
Well said. In school we had a saying whenever someone started to dissagree with the Chef/Instructor by quoting some "other unverifiable source"..
The chefs would say:
"Well, since we cannot hear from the horses mouth, I guess we have to listen to the HORSE'S ARSE!"..lol
People stopped quoting faster than you could repeat ...HORSE'S ARSE...
sorry, Just thought I'd share..I've quite stolen this and use it at home with my teen son when he starts in with..'EVERYBODY...." lol

Sometimes.
RisqueBusiness,
Luckily my son was right there when it happened and he was able to keep the dog away from the cake until I got it cleaned up so she did not get any of it at all. I appreciate your concern.

Very pretty cake. Glad it turned out for you. As for the chocolate and dogs, my jack russell is a chocoholic. He's 6 years old now, and can't get enough of the stuff. He literally will fight you for it. He's still chipper and healthy as a horse.
Well your cake looks fabulous!
So, funny about this though. Cause last night I had a tupperware party. And when I turned around my godson who I guess didn't want to finish his Mocha cake...put his bowl on the floor for my Yorkie 'Charlotte' to finish.
Let me tell you SHE WAS IN HEAVEN!!!!! And she is only 10 pounds..and she was fine!!
So, don't worry...happens everywhere! HEHE!
