Does anyone shop at restaurant depot for supplies, materials etc? They have locations all over the U.S. and stock lot of supplies including boxes and some boards. I believe membership is free but you must have tax id number.

HI - yes membership is free - you have to show your business license/tax ID and they give you a card that youhave to scan when you enter. you can purhase items for resale tax free - only things you will use in the business to sell your cakes - so apart from flour, sugar etc, also boxes, cake boards etc. However they do not have too much seletion where cake items are concerned. Dont know if this varies from store to store but the one I go to, they dont have fillings etc.

I shop at the Restaurant Depot, but mostly for butter and chocolate. The one we have here in Pittsburgh doesn't stock cake boxes or boards or any other cake-related items. The deals they have on the stuff I do buy there are awesome! I can get 11-pound blocks of Callebaut chocolate for $35 and butter usually goes for about $1.69 a pound...and it's Grassland Butter which has won awards! They also carry Plugra butter for $2.29 a pound. Sugar, flour and other baking staples aren't any cheaper there than they are at Wal-Mart, though.

We have one that opened near me. I only have been their once and it was when they were first open. They were not even fully stocked yet. I did buy some stuff but didn't have to have a resale license.

I didn't see any food items then. As I said they were not fully stocked, only about 1/2 way.

They didn't tell me I had to have a wholesale license either. So they either sale both ways or since they didn't sale me food items it didn't matter.
