For those of you who been having trouble trying to download the cake matrix, I found a way to do so. I didn't have the microsoft programs (excel) etc so i went to openoffice.org and got the free downloads to these programs and bam I was able to open up the file!!!! So for those of you who have been trying to get it try that website. My only question is how to use you the matrix? Does everything you enter automatically calculate prices? Whoever came up with this is a genius. Thanks for sharing it to the rest of us. thumbs_up.gif

monnitas0808 did you download openoffice.org? if so when you click on the saved document (Price Matrix) that box will open click on the second bubble. the first one says something about the web. the second ones allows to to browse to find the software you want to use to download it. Click on Openoffice and it should work in a couple of seconds

I was able to download, and open the pricematrix, but being so new to this site, I'm needing a little bit of interpretation. I'm seeing stuff that indicates things like pan shape, size, cups of batter, the servings, baking temp, etc., but I guess I'm needing help interpeting exactly how the prices are figured?

How do you configure sales tax? What kind of formula would that be?

Chef_Stef Cake Central Cake Decorator Profile

To get sales tax, take your final price for the whole cake and create a new cel that figures the formula for sales tax.

Say your final price is showing in cel A4 and your sales tax is 8%

The tax formula would look like this:

=Sum(A4*.0icon_cool.gif+A4

That would do it.

Edit! Corrected to show no smilies

Oh my word! What a blessing. I just plugged in the numbers for the cake I am working on right now. I was a little under in my pricing. But only by $20. But now I won't ever have to be under again! thumbs_up.gificon_biggrin.gif

Thanks so much for uploading this!

I'm new to cake decorating and I havent started getting a lot of orders so I have no idea of how to use this thing. I'm good at computers and I know Excel, but I was just gonna charge for my time basically. I was thinking like $15.00 for a 9 inch round cake with minimal designs.

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!! to Dawn and Donna for putting these together! I hope you do get your pricing in line. So many under price their work, which is bad for the rest of us who want to get paid for working. People at times will come to my shop and say, "why are your cakes so high?" I can get my neighbor to make it for less.

Matrix is pretty cool. Wish I had it years earlier!

That is the most amazing thing I have ever seen, and I'm an accountant by trade!! It would have taken me MONTHS to create this, and only after far too many hours on the computer instead of in the kitchen. Words can't express how grateful I am that I found not only this forum/website, but this thread as well. At least now I know how much I have been making (or not making) on my cakes.

I figured it out WOHOOOO
Ok question on the deposit for rental items. If the items are returned do you refund the $ or is that ment to be kept for wear and tear?
If like me things are just borrowed and no issue of return you know it will come back do you skip this part?
