Hi all.

Do you make a special cake for a 1st birthday? Rather than a box? Do you do a less sugar cake? Or a banana cake?

Also what frosting do you use? I was looking at Kay's Buttercream and then realized it has raw eggs. A little nervous about that for a 1 year old.

TIA

Hi Melanie! I usually do whatever the customer requests. I think you are safe using any cake mix. However...if it was me...I would use a regular buttercream icing that did not use eggs. I use a recipe similar to the Wilton recipe, but I use mexican vanilla, butter extract, and cream boquet in mine. Hope this helps!

The one thing I do for 1st birthday cakes I make is I make the birthday boy/girl their own smash cake .. MrsFish94 made a monkey from the mini stand up bear pan .. I made one from her idea .. it was just precious .. I've seen others that made an Ernie from Sesame Street and made a mini cake like it for the smash cake ..

as far as flavor, I think the smash cakes should have chocolate or brown tinted buttercream .. I mean the whole idea is for them to enjoy and make a total mess of it lol
