Need Help With Coloring Italian Buttercream..

I made today a christmas cake and I use italian buttercream my problem was that when I trie to put the green color and red, I couldn't get done!! I use americolor and wilton and it just look like very tiny gust of colors oll over.. does anybody know why?

It is waterbased. Oil based works best for this. Sometimes when it get warm in the bag it get darker. But oil based works best.
