Yesterday, I was invited to do an all-day sampling at a very nice day spa and salon in town. I baked a couple of 1/4 sheet cakes; took my most popular flavors of cake truffles, and headed in. I took many orders right there on the spot, and now, the owner is ordering more from me for her upcoming open house. Just wanted to share my first "legal" sampling and the success that I had with it. There are a couple of things that I'll change or do differently next time, but all in all, I really got my name out there! icon_smile.gif

Next time, I'll already have my cake slices in cupcake cups for easier sampling. I'll have more pre-packaged items for selling right there instead of just taking orders. I'll defintiely do some cookie bouquets, too.

I did a festival over the summer, it was right before I opened.

I put teeny slices in mini cups with lids ( had over 600 cups with cake or brownie)

all the cups had a label with my name and phone number PLUS I had cards available, my portfolio and brochures.

It was a heck of a lot easier to hand people a cup and network than sit there cutting cake slices and trying to keep everything clean.

the only other thing I brought to the festival was..plastic shopping bags for the convenience of the people ( most had handfuls of giveaways and samples so it made a nice gesture for me to put everything in a bag for them so they could have a free hand to eat my cake..lol

and people always remember a kindness.

I had plastic forks that I had wrapped in paper napkins and little wet naps.

So, Amy...now exactly do you get invited to do something like this? Did you know the owner and were all kinds of businesses invited? I would like to do some more promo stuff myself.

Risque...as always, great advice. Do you mind me asking what kind of a festival it was? I am revving up for the new year. I have only been a SAHB business since March, but things have been starting to roll and I want to keep it coming!

Congrats--
I have a spa that orders snickerdoodles to go with their spa packages. In a couple of weeks, I'll send some valentine cookies, fancy petit fours and cake truffles for orders. You have given me new ideas...Thanks!

This is for pigmea40, who needs a translation into Spanish, as she needs a translation into Spanish. It was taken from babelfish.altavista.com:

Michelle,

I had donated a cake back in early November for a pre-holiday open house. From there, I asked if I could display my business cards in her business. She was very accommodating, and allowed to me to have business cards and brochures out for her customers to pick up. She told me that Tuesday-Thursday are busy, busy days for the salon/spa, and I was welcome to sample my items during peak hours on any of those days. She's extremely friendly, as is the staff, they were super-supportive of my business. They really talked it up to their own clients. I would recommend this type of "exposure" to anyone. I'm still taking orders from that one day of sampling. icon_smile.gif
