Has anyone tried the fake Neiman Marcus chocolate chip cookie recipe that floats around the internet? It calls for blended oatmeal. http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/fooddrink/a/cookie_recipe.htm

Has anyone tried the official Neiman Marcus chocolate chip recipe from their website?

If you've tried either please give me some feedback. I am looking for a new chocolate chip recipe? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I've tried the 'fake' one and it actually makes a decent cookie. Never tried the 'real' one though. It can be quite messy to blend all those ingredients, but the recipe makes sooo many cookies and for me it was worth the hassle.

The "fake" one makes absolutley wonderful cookies. This is the only recipe that I use when I make chocolate chip cookies, and I usually only make them around Christmas because it does take a lot of work.

Make sure you blend your oatmeal until it is a oatmeal flour consistancy. That really makes the cookies so much better.

That recipe has been going around since the '80's, when it was called the "Mrs. Field's" cookie. We love it. We make the whole batch and freeze part and eat them frozen. They are great for camping, too, since they travel in backpacks really well.

I put half the oatmeal in the blender with half of the chocolate bar, blend until it has a coarse flour texture, and then do the same with the other half.

Wow, I must've done something wrong when I made that NM cookie as I found it hard and crumbly.

I guess it's time to do another batch. lol

Since my OP, I have made both recipes of cookies. The fake recipe (urbanlegends link) was very good and everyone loved the cookies. The official one from the Neiman Marcus site made a soft, but not as tasty cookies. People definitely preferred the other. I think people did not like the Espresso in the chocolate chip recipe.

My mom actually got the fake recipe emailed to her when I was a junior in high school (199icon_cool.gif. I made these cookies and took them to school with me and most of them were gone by the end of the day (the batch makes about 6 doz cookies, so my friends were little piggies icon_wink.gif ) They were very good. My DH (then BF) doesn't like oatmeal, but he liked it in those cookies. icon_smile.gif I think it was because it was ground up into a powder.
